Morrison Paul
Paul Morrison. Chloroplast
Sometimes plausible, sometimes inconceivable, Paul Morrison's starkly black-and-white wall works, with their precisely defined forms, relocate the viewer into a fictitious place equipped with a range of comfortably familiar allusions. Constructed through a combination of gently rounded forms derived equally from Walt Disney and the rigor of the botanical draftsman, Morrison's imaginary world mixes the earnest truth with the sincere make-believe. Essays by Simon Wallis, Godfrey Wordsdale and Andrea Madesta. Foreword by Ellen Seifermann. — F.to: 21x27; pagg. 76; COL e BN; rileg. brossura. Editore: Buchhandlung Walther König, Köln, 2002.

Prince Richard
Richard Prince. Women
Perfectly beautiful yet strangely faceless, hundreds of interchangeable fashion models and bare-breasted biker chicks find themselves reincarnated in the artwork of Richard Prince. Prince recycles these American (male) pop culture fantasies from found materials, most often advertising images and magazine layouts which he rephotographs, repaints or overpaints, arranges in collages, or breaks down into fragments. Images of women representing various spheres of trivial culture, marketing iconography like the Marlboro Man, and figures borrowed from chauvinist cartoons are central motifs in his art. Without comment, Prince cites and duplicates them in supposedly defunct role clichés that remain stubbornly present even today. Women goes even further, presenting a diverse yet decidedly thematic selection of appropriations chosen by the artist himself and ranging across his body of work. From bad sexist jokes to the covers of books written by female authors, from rockin' out naked biker chicks to Kate Moss, from a rephotographed Untitled Film Still to penny-novel nurses--these are Richard Prince's Women. Edited by Shaun Caley Regen. — Testi: Caley Regen Shaun. F.to: 19x28,5; pagg. 176; 196 COL; rileg. rigida. Editore: Hatje Cantz Verlag, Ostfildern, 2004.

Rothko Mark
Seeing Rothko
Written by leading experts on the artists Mark Rothko (1903–1970) was one of the greatest artists of the twentieth century. His work is intensely charged with meaning and emotion, portraying human feelings rather then color or form. In this lavishly illustrated survey, Bonnie Clearwater traces the development of Rothko’s career, from his arrival in the United States as a child through to the formation of his mature style, and examines his initial influences and interactions with other artists. Drawing on the artist’s own letters and writings, The Rothko Book provides the most comprehensive introduction yet to this complex and fascinating figure. — Testi: Philllips Glenn, Crow Thomas.
