On September 3 1914 the German Foreign Ministry formed an anti-British Indian Nationalism Party in Berlin where it declared that it had committed itself to persuading the Ottoman Sultan to open jihad against Britain. One month later the day of the war by the Ottoman Empire and Germany under the leadership of the Grand Vizier Sait Pasha the Minister of War Enver Pasha Talat Pasha and Halil Bey the alliance was made and immediately announced mobilization. On November 11 1914 Shaikh al-Islam Hayri Efendi proclaimed "the Jihad-e Akbar" calling the Muslims of Crimea Turkestan India Afghanistan and Africa to jihad against the Christian nations; Britain France and Russia The Entente. It is aimed to weaken the Entente Powers by simmering Muslims who were under the rule of them and thus the victory of the Ottoman Empire. Text starts with proclamation of Jihad for Islamic world. This second edition � the first was published in 1884 has been historically updated with new statistical data partly rewritten and enlarged by 15 chapters and 132 pages. Among the new material is a chapter relating to the early discovery of coal in the United States and another detailing the connection of the Washington and Lincoln families with the manufacture of iron in colonial times. There are separate chapters for each state and there is also a short one describing the first iron works in Canada. The author was a statistician historian executive secretary vice-president and general manager of the American Iron and Steel Association from 1873 to 1912 and an important advocate for protectionism.
