Talese / Doubleday which is affixed on the verso of the front cover. Light scuffing to inside front cover and back cover otherwise in near fine condition. The Hawkshead Press 1958-1961 is an imprint of John Robert Colombo poet anthologist editor essayist humorist and author or editor of over 200 books. The Hawkshead Press published broadsides and little chapbooks in small editions. Authors included Milton Acorn Mike Strong pseud. of Mirko Srzentich Phyllis Gotlieb Jay Macpherson and Colombo himself. Written by Atwood when she was 19 years of age Double Persephone her first publication is a collection of poems based on the mythological figure of Persephone. It won the E.J. Pratt Medal. The text is comprised of seven poems: "Formal Garden" "Pastoral" "Iconic Landscape" "Persephone Departing" "Chthonic Love" "Her Song" "and "Double Persephone". According to Atwood she and a friend hand-set the text and printed it on a small flat bed press in an edition of 220 copies. She also designed and printed the cover using linoblocks.
