Zeitung etwas gebräunt und gerändert, altersentsprechend gut erhalten. Die historische Beilage zur "Göttinger Zeitung" vom Weihnachtsfest 1915 verzeichnet zunächst auf etwa 2,5 Seiten die Spenden aus der Bevölkerung für den Vaterländischen Kriegshilfsdienst. Hier ist dicht geschrieben und genau verzeichnet, wer mit welcher Summe und aus welchem Beruf heraus gespendet hat - aufgeteilt nach den jeweiligen Zahlstellen in Göttingen (Stadtkämmerei, Weinhandlung Bremer, Zigarrenhandlung Krausbauer etc.). Infolge werden kurz die bisherigen Spenden zur "Nationalstiftung für die Hinterbliebenen der im Kriege Gefallenen" aufgelistet (Datum 24.12.1915). Auf der vierten Seite ist ein längerer Text des Kriegshilfsdienstes selbst zu lesen - über aktuelle Vorgänge und Erreichtes sowie zu kommenden Aufgaben, denn der Krieg währte ab Dezember 1915 ja noch weitere zweieinhalb Jahre. Sehr interessant ist eine fast halbseitige Danksagung des Infanterie-Regiments Nr. 82 (die sogenannten "82er") an den Magistrat der Stadt Göttingen für die zum Weihnachtsfest 1915 übersandten Gaben. Hier heißt es: "Göttingen hat uns durch seine Liebesgabentätigkeit neuen Mut und neue Kraft zu neuen Taten gegeben", zuvor bereits ist zu lesen: "Die Stadt Göttingen wolle versichert sein, daß durch die herrlichen Gaben dem Regiment große Freude wiederfahren ist und jeder 82er von dem Gedanken durchdrungen ist, so wie Göttingen hat wohl kaum eine andere Stadt für ihren Truppenteil gesorgt". Most of the Rhine crossings were bombed by the Allies or destroyed by retreating German forces. The first part of this work details the construction of semi-permanent bridges at Arnhem Xanten Rees and Spyck. The second part covers the equally urgent task of making the Rhine a navigable waterway for the transport of supplies: large debris from 23 demolished bridges was cleared with the use of depth charges and other high explosives. Deceptively detailed booklet providing the official context of the immediate post-war occupation of Germany, in which 30 Corps was awarded a prominent role. As a unit 30 Corps requires no introduction here. Led by Horrocks for most of its life, it rapidly became one of the most renowned fighting units of the British Army in WWII: 'in three years' hard fighting in eight countries neither the Corps nor any of the formations under its command have been defeated in battle or forced to yield any captured objective'. From Alamein to Arnhem and beyond, the 'Wild Boar' was never far from the thick of it.

A key component of Second Army, the famous West Country Division captured Mount Picon, forced the crossing of the Seine, were the first British troops to fight in Germany, and turned the tide in the Reichswald enabling the Allies to close with the Rhine. As part of Horrocks' 30 Corps, the division also took part in the headlong rush to Nijmegen in GARDEN. Locally printed, probably on a commissioned press, this humble pamphlet is nevertheless a moving tribute to one of the most famous British fighting units of WWII. A RARE SURVIVAL AND CONSIDERABLY MORE ELUSIVE THAN ITS SECOND ARMY COUNTERPART.

They include Eighth Army, 78 Division, 2 Polish Corps, 10 Corps, 5 Corps, Canadian Corps, 30 Corps, 13 Corps, Airborne, 1 Division, 8 Armoured Division, 8 Indian Division, 1 Armoured Division, 10 Indian Division, 1 South African Division, 10 Armoured Division, 4 Indian Division, 7 Armoured Division, 5 Division, 5 Indian Division, 2 South African Division, 6 Armoured Division, Jugoslavs, 2 Greek Independent Brigade, Frimili Group, Cremona Group, Folgore Group, Jewish Brigade Group, Free French Brigade, 6 South African Armoured Division, 5 Polish Kresowa Division, 2 New Zealand Division, 56 Division, 44 Division, 46 Division, 5 Canadian Armoured Division, 50 Division, 1 Canadian Division, 1 Australian Division, 51 Division, 4 Division, 3 Carpathian Division. This striking montage serves to emphasise the wide variety of nationalities, types and backgrounds of the units under (primarily) Montgomery's command. A previous owner (possibly the original recipient) has inked in neatly the names of most of the units. Cole reproduces the front wrapper in his standard reference 'Heraldry in War' (plate facing p.120). VERY SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION.
