Oktober 1945 im Speziallager Sachsenhausen) war Reichstagsabgeordneter der DNVP, später NSDAP, jungkonservativer Publizist, Gründer einiger antikommunistischer Organisationen und früher Propagandist eines nationalen Sozialismus. Nach eigenen Angaben habe er Kommandeur Waldemar Pabst zu der Ermordung von Rosa Luxemburg und Karl Liebknecht animiert. Eduard Stadtler wurde in Hagenau im Elsass Reichsland Elsaß-Lothringen als Sohn des Joseph Stadtler und dessen Ehefrau Catharina Stadtler geborenen Debua geboren. Er besuchte die katholische Volksschule seines Heimatortes und später eine Schule in Belfort, wo er das französische Baccalauréat bestand. In Hagenau machte er sein deutsches Abitur. Er studierte in Graz und Straßburg und bestand 1910 das Staatsexamen für höheres Lehrfach. 1910 bis 1912 war er im Schuldienst tätig. 1911 wurde er bei Martin Spahn zum Dr. phil. promoviert. 1915 meldete er sich als Kriegsfreiwilliger zum Ersten Weltkrieg. Er geriet 1916 als Vizefeldwebel des Füsilierregiments 122 in russische Kriegsgefangenschaft, aus der er 1918 zurückkehrte. 1918 wurde er Leiter der Pressestelle des deutschen Generalkonsulats Moskau. Im Dezember 1918 gründete Stadtler die Antibolschewistische Liga, deren erster Leiter er wurde. Mit großzügigen Spenden deutscher Industrieller versehen, konnte er weitere antikommunistische Organisationen aufbauen, so z. B. das 1919 gegründete Generalsekretariat zum Studium und zur Bekämpfung des Bolschewismus. Stadtler war auch Vorstand der Vereinigung für nationale und soziale Solidarität (Solidarier), die 1918 von Heinrich von Gleichen initiiert worden war und aus der 1924 der Deutsche Herrenklub hervorging. Er war auch Mitglied des jungkonservativen Juniklubs. Zu seinem elitären Kreis aus exponierten nationalen Unternehmern, Politikern und Intellektuellen gehörten u. a. Karl Helfferich, Simon Marx, Adam Stegerwald, Franz Röhr, Heinrich von Gleichen-Rußwurm, Arthur Moeller van den Bruck, Otto Strasser, Franz von Papen und Hugo Stinnes. Stadtler wurde auch Mitglied der ähnlich elitären und einflussreichen Gesellschaft zum Studium des Faschismus. 1919 bis 1925 gab er die jungkonservative Zeitschrift Das Gewissen heraus; seit 1925 die Wochenschrift Das Großdeutsche Reich. Er wurde Mitglied im Bundesvorstand des Stahlhelms; 1929 übernahm er die Führung des paramilitärischen Stahlhelm-Studentenrings Langemarck. Ebenso war er im Zentralvorstand der DNVP, für die er 1932 bis 1933 Mitglied des preußischen Landtags und Mitglied des Reichstages war. Am 31. Mai 1933 trat er aus der DNVP aus und in die NSDAP ein. 1933 wurde Stadtler politischer Direktor im Ullstein Verlag, verlor diesen Posten aber bereits im Jahr darauf im Streit mit Reichspropagandaminister Joseph Goebbels.[6] Ab 1934 war er als Schriftsteller und Verleger in Düsseldorf tätig. Stadtler propagierte einen ?deutschen?, ?nationalen? oder ?christlich-nationalen? Sozialismus, im Gegensatz zum ?Klassenkampf-Sozialismus?. Ziel seines politischen Denkens war eine hierarchisch gegliederte ?Volksgemeinschaft?. Der Direktor der Deutschen Bank Paul Mankiewitz organisierte für den 10. Januar 1919 in den Räumen des Aero-Klubs von Berlin ein Treffen von 50 hochrangigen Teilnehmern der Industrie-, Handels- und Bankenwelt, an dem u. a. Hugo Stinnes, Albert Vögler, Siemens, Otto Henrich (Siemens-Schuckert Konzern), Ernst von Borsig, Felix Deutsch (AEG) und Arthur Salomonsohn (Disconto-Gesellschaft) teilnahmen. Einziger Tagesordnungspunkt war Stadtlers Vortrag ?Der Bolschewismus als Weltgefahr?. Stadtler berichtete in seinen 1935 erschienenen Memoiren, die Vertreter der deutschen Wirtschaft hätten daraufhin 500 Millionen Reichsmark für den Antibolschewistenfonds freigegeben. Die Gelder wurden über die Verbände der Industrie, des Handels und der Banken von deutschen Unternehmern auf freiwilliger Basis eingezogen. Von da an flossen laut Stadtler gewaltige Summen u. a. an Freikorps, die Armee und Gruppen, die (mit welchen Mitteln auch immer) "antibolschewistisch" wirken sollten. Diese Angaben werden von dem amerikanischen Sozialhistoriker Gerald D. Feldman bezweifelt, der schätzt, der Fonds habe von jedem anwesenden Wirtschaftsführer fünf Millionen Reichsmark erhalten. Bereits im März 1919 trat Stadtler vom Vorsitz der Liga zurück. Die finanzielle Zusammenarbeit von Großindustrie und nationalistischen Politikern blieb eine kurzfristige Episode. Stadtler beschreibt nicht ohne Stolz in seinem während der Hitlerdiktatur 1935 veröffentlichten Buch, wie er am 12. Januar 1919 Kommandeur Waldemar Pabst von der Garde-Kavallerie-Schützen-Division im Eden-Hotel zur Ermordung von Karl Liebknecht und Rosa Luxemburg animiert habe. Die beiden letzteren wurden laut Stadtler am 15. Januar 1919 von den ?Mannen Major Pabsts? ?beseitigt?. Zudem behauptet er, am 9. Januar 1919 erfolgreich Gustav Noske davon überzeugt zu haben, die Dahlemer Truppen gegen die Berliner Räteregierung einzusetzen. Die Morde und Truppeneinsätze gegen die deutschen Räterepubliken sowie alle Bewegungen, die ?mit welchen Mitteln auch immer? antibolschewistisch wirkten, wurden aus Geldern des am 10. Januar eingerichteten Antibolschewistenfonds des deutschen Kapitals finanziert; Stadtlers Antibolschewistische Liga war eher der Propagandaarm und zuständig für Schlüsselaktionen auf höchster Ebene. Kommandeur Pabst holte nach eigenen Aussagen in seinen Memoiren für die Ermordung von Rosa Luxemburg und Karl Liebknecht jedoch auch das Einverständnis von Gustav Noske und Friedrich Ebert ein.
