Hardcovers bound in full dark brown or black cloth. The bindings are worn bumped and stained. Volume I has been re-backed with the original spine laid down and is quite sound. Volume II has some fraying to the cloth about the edges and the rear outer hinge at the spine is splitting. This volume has a bookseller's ticket from Raleigh NC from the "Southern Law Book Exchange". This volume also has 2 leaves 4 pages numbered 3-6 pasted into the front with the title "An Act for the Relief of Certain Confederate Soldiers Sailors and Widows" from the North Carolina General Assembly. It looks like it may have been cut out of another book. This Volume II also has an inscription at the front "James M. Ray's Volume / Bought at Raleigh / Sept. 1907. Pd. 60c". A former owner has laid in loosely some typed research on Ray noting that he enlisted on 5/26/62 as a 1st Lieutenant in Company "F" NC 60th Infantry Other information given including that he was wounded at Chickamauga GA and more information is given about the 60th Regiment. Rear inner hinge is splitting in this volume. Volume III is worn and stained and has a nick on the front hinge but appears sound. Volume IV has moderate wear and is sound.
