‎Karl Holtz studiert 1914-1919 bei Emil Orlik (1870-1932) an der Berliner Kunstgewerbeschule. Vorü­bergehend ist er in Rehbrücke bei Potsdam ansässig, 1933 erhält er wegen antinationalsozialistischer Karikaturen Berufsverbot als Pressezeichner und ist nun als Werbegraphiker und technischer Zeichner tätig. Am 2. Welt­krieg nimmt er als Soldat in Warschau teil. Nach 1945 ist er wieder in Rehbrücke ansässig und arbeitet bei verschie­denen Zeitschriften mit. Wegen der Veröffentlichung ei­ner Stalin-Karikatur im Schweizer Satire-Magazin ?Ne­belspalter? wird Holtz verhaftet und zu 25 Jahren Zwangsarbeit in Bautzen verurteilt. Nach sieben Jahren, 1956, wird er begnadigt und entlassen. Es folgt jedoch kei­ne Rehabilitierung. Sein Gesamtwerk wird 1974 in Berlin, Potsdam, Leipzig und Greiz gezeigt.‎
