‎Ouvrage rare dont l' attribution à Dom DELFAU pose quelques problèmes , notamment au " Grand dictionnaire historique ou Mélange curieux de l' histoire " de Moréri : - " Il ( Dom Delfau ) entreprit la révision de tous les ouvrages de saint Augustin , avec l' aide de Dom Robert Guérard et de Dom Jean Durand . Ces religieux furent bientôt après séparez , à l ' occasion du livre intitulé L' Abbé Commendataire , qu' on leur attribuoit " ( Supplément aux Anciennes Editions du Grand Dictionnaire historique , Brunel , 1716 , vol. I , p. 547 ) .- " (...) le livre intitiulé L' Abbé Commendataire , dans lequel on attaque vivement les bénéfices tenus en commende et où l' on ne s' élève pas avec moins de force contre les abus que les moines font quelquefois de leurs revenus . On attribua cet ouvrage à dom Delfau et en conséquence , il fut relégué à Saint-Mahé en basse-Bretagne . Ce livre de L' Abbé Commendataire est divisé en deux parties : la première imprimée à Cologne , si on en croit le titre , en 1673 , et la seconde au même lieu en 1674 . On croit que dom Delfau n' est auteur que de la première ; et que dom Gerberon a fait la seconde , que plusieurs néanmoins attribuent à feu M. Guy Drapier , curé de Saint-Sauveur de Beauvais " ( Cl. P. Goujet , Supplément au Grand Dictionnaire historique ... de L. Moréri , Lemercier , 1735 , p. 350 ). - " Ces Religieux furent bien-tôt après séparez à l' occasion du livre intitulé L' Abbé Commendataire , dont le Père Delfau étoit l' auteur " ( Le Grand Dictionnaire historique , Brunel , 1740 , p. 47 ) . - " On attribua cet ouvrage à dom Delfau ( ... ) ,cependant on a des assurances qu' il est de Gui Drapier curé de Saint-Laurent de Beauvais " ( Moréri , Goujet , Le Grand Dictionnaire historique ... , Libraires associés , 1759 , pp. 80-81 . - J. B. Ladvocat dans son Dictionnaire historique et bibliographique portatif ( Le Clerc , 1777 , vol. III , Table ) cite comme auteurs Delfau et Guérard . - Ch. Th. Beauvais et A. A. Barbier notent dans leur " Biographie universelle classique " ( 1829 , p. 1349 ) : " Mais ayant été soupçonné d' avoir coopéré à l' ouvrage intitulé L' Abbé Commendataire , attribué à dom Delfau , Guérard fut exilé . " - Le Centre de Recherches sur l' Histoire du Livre au XVIIè s. l' attribue à Dom Delfau et estime qu' il a été imprimé à Lyon ou à Rouen . Emil Weller dans son Dictionnaire des ouvrages français portant de fausses indications ... pense qu' il a été imprimé en Hollande . François DELFAU ( Montet-en-Auvergne 1637 - Landévennec 1676 ) : théologien bénédictin , spécialiste de patristique . Il fut chargé par la Congrégation de Saint-Maur , avec d' autres moines dont Dom Guérard , d' une édition critique des oeuvres de saint Augustin . Les manuscrits affluèrent de divers pays et de la Bibliothèque Vaticane . Lorsque les deux premiers volumes étaient sur le point d' être imprimés , deux lettres de cachet de Louis XIV en septembre 1675 décrétèrent leur relégation . En cause " L' Abbé commendataire " publié en 1673 ( 2ème et 3ème parties en 1674 ) . Dom Delfau mourut retiré au monastère de Landévennec .‎
