An Attempt to Systematize the Gates in the Urartian Fortresses. (Iranica Antiqua).
Crown quarto. Pp. 169-190. With figures and tables. Original printed wrappers. In mint condition. ~ First edition thus. Offprint from Iranica Antiqua, 2004. Abstract: One of the most interesting issues in Urartian archaeology is the development of a defensive network. The majority of Urartian fortresses have never been excavated though. This article provides an overview of defensive sites with preserved defensive gates in Iranian North-Western Azerbaijan and eastern Turkey. Other parts of the Near East should be studied, but no possibility is offered today.

Some Remarks on Sargon II's Eighth Campaign of 714 BC. (Iranica Antiqua).
Crown quarto. Pp. 191-202. With 2 full-page figures. Original printed wrappers. In mint condition. ~ First edition thus. Offprint from Iranica Antiqua, 2004. Abstract :The written account of Sargon's eight campaign provides valuable information about the internal organisation of the Urartian Kingdom. The account, in the form of a letter, describes the campaign trail in detail and a numbers of scholars have suggested many possible routes which Sargon might have taken. Unfortunately our lack of knowledge of Urartian geography makes the task of reconstructing the trail extremely difficult, if not impossible. Nevertheless, the text does give some very useful information about the military and especially, the defensive system of the Kingdom of Urartu.

EXCAVATING IN EGYPT The Egypt Exploration Society 1882-1982
The University of Chicago Press. Very Good. 1984. Softcover. 0226391922 . Some foxing. ; A hundred year's work of the Egypt Exploration Society is celebrated in this centenary volume written by nine leading authorities. From the pioneering days of Amelia Edwards a founder of the Society the essays describe the expeditions of Flinders Petrie Naville Griffith Emery and many other great archaeologists showing how enormous and wide-ranging have been the discoveries made by the Society. Quotations form reports and diaries bring to life the arduous conditions under which the excavators labored and reveal their very different approaches.
