‎Late Bronze Age graves of Bakla Tepe.= Bakla Tepe Geç Tunç Çagi mezarlari.‎

‎New English Paperback. 4to. (30 x 21 cm). In English and Turkish. 282 p., color ills. Late Bronze Age graves of Bakla Tepe.= Bakla Tepe Geç Tunç Çagi mezarlari. The Tahtali Dam was constructed in Cuma Plain to provide potable water to Izmir. Before the dam project was completed, archaeological research and excavations have been conducted in the region between the years of 1994 and 2001 for salvaging the cultural property which would submerge because of the dam. Within the scope of the studies, as part of the protocol signed by the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI) and the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums, excavations have been performed under the presidency of Izmir Archaeological Museum Director, Dr. Turhan Özkan, and under the scientific direction of Prof. Dr. Hayat Erkanal, faculty member at Ankara University Department of Archaeology. A tumulus and a pithos grave belonging to LBA uncovered during these studies between 1996 and 1997 are discussed in this publication.‎

‎HAYDEN JULIAN D.; BROYLES BILL & BOYER DIANE E. EDITORS‎

‎Field Man: Life As A Desert Archaeologist‎

‎University of Arizona Press Tucson 2010. Softcover. Brand new book. Field Man is the captivating memoir of renowned southwestern archaeologist Julian Dodge Hayden a man who held no professional degree or faculty position but who camped and argued with a who's who of the discipline including Emil Haury Malcolm Rogers Paul Ezell and Norman Tindale. This is the personal story of a blue-collar scholar who bucked the conventional thinking on the antiquity of man in the New World who brought a formidable pragmatism and "hand sense" to the identification of stone tools and who is remembered as the leading authority on the prehistory of the Sierra Pinacate in northwestern Mexico. But Field Man is also an evocative recollection of a bygone time and place a time when archaeological trips to the Southwest were "expeditions" when a man might run a Civilian Conservation Corps crew by day and study the artifacts of ancient peoples by night when one could honeymoon by a still-full Gila River and when a Model T pickup needed extra transmissions to tackle the back roads of Arizona. To say that Julian Hayden led an eventful life would be an understatement. He accompanied his father a Harvard-trained archaeologist on influential excavations became a crew chief in his own right taught himself silversmithing married a "city girl" helped build the Yuma Air Field worked as a civilian safety officer and was a friend and mentor to countless students. He also crossed paths with leading figures in other fields. Barry Goldwater and even Frank Lloyd Wright turn up in this wide-ranging narrative of a "desert rat" who was at once a throwback andas he only half-jokingly suggestsahead of his time. Field Man is the product of years of interviews with Hayden conducted by his colleagues and friends Bill Broyles and Diane Boyer. It is introduced by noted southwestern anthropologist J. Jefferson Reid and contains an epilogue by Steve Hayden one of Julian's sons. "This autobiography provides an honest first-hand account of the life of a unique individual a man who dedicated his immense skills and intellect to the study of ancient human adaptations to the Sonoran Desert." - Phoenix Kiva: The Journal of Southwestern Anthropology and History "Field Man is the most entertaining archaeologist's memoir I've ever read. Here is a book that goes just fine with a cold beer on a hot summer day." - The Dirt Brothers: Book Reviews for Amateur & Avocational Archaeologists "The book is fascinating irreverent humorous and never dull. It is a quick read and left me wishing I could have met and visited with Mr. Hayden myself." - The Hohokam University of Arizona Press, Tucson 2010 paperback‎

‎THE ATHENIAN AGORA. VOLUME XXXII: ROMAN POTTERY Fine-Ware Imports‎

‎Book is like new. Still wrapped in plastic. ; Examples of Roman period red-gloss and red-slip pottery (terra sigillata) found during excavations in the Athenian Agora form the focus of this volume. These fine wares, like the other table wares of the first seven centuries A. D. Discussed here, were all imported--a very different situation to earlier periods where Athens was known as a great ceramic-making center, and perhaps the result of mass destruction of potters' workshops during the Sullan sack of 86 B. C. While the image of a demolished pottery industry is tragic, the consequent conglomeration of fine-wares from many parts of the Roman empire in one city makes the Athenian Agora a tremendous source of comparanda for archaeologists working all round the Mediterranean. Written by the world's leading expert on Roman pottery, this huge catalogue illustrating and identifying multiple shapes and types of decoration will therefore be an essential reference book.; The Athenian Agora. Volume XXXII; Vol. 32; 12.1 X 9.2 X 1.3 inches; 386 pages‎
