Good. <p>Born in Haukeland Norway novelist and screenwriter Martha Ostenso moved with her parents to Manitoba Canada and later with her partner to New York City and Minnesota. Her best known novel "Wild Geese" was published in 1925. It was hailed as a landmark in Canadian realism and was made into a film in 1927. Her later novels never received the same acclaim as "Wild Geese" but they continued to explore the same themes of the relationship between men and women and the land they work. Many were based on Minnesota farm life and portrayed the lives of rural immigrants with dignity. She became an American citizen in 1931.</p> June 27, 1929.

Sono gli eventi, più che gli ideali, a ispirare i politici di razza, e nella sua folgorante ascesa pubblica lui fu senz'altro un uomo che visse la politica come arte del possibile. Spirito autenticamente liberale, amava il juste milieu, il giusto mezzo. L'unificazione della penisola non fu il sogno della sua vita: divenne un obiettivo quando si presentò l'occasione per conseguirla. In verità, come afferma Ottone, egli "fece politica, in primo luogo, per trovare se stesso".

Apparso per la prima volta nel 1997 sulle pagine del "New Yorker", questo impetuoso, lucidissimo saggio di Cynthia Ozick strappa il velo di dissimulazione e retorica che negli anni ha ovattato e mistificato la limpida voce di Anne Frank e del suo Diario. Troppo spesso e troppo a lungo oggetto di interpretazioni semplificate e fuorvianti, di appropriazioni indebite, tradimenti e comode "santificazioni", il Diario è servito da lasciapassare per un'amnesia collettiva - storica e culturale - sulle cause e le circostanze della morte della sua autrice e di milioni di altre vittime dell'Olocausto. La depravazione e la ferocia dei nazisti, il male che ha consumato la protagonista, sono stati attenuati e sorpassati nel tempo dal solo battere della critica, dell'editoria, dei lettori e persino del padre - Otto Frank - sul tema della bontà e della forza umana, utilizzando strumentalmente la voce di Anne per costruire un discorso sul passato tanto rassicurante quanto sterile.
