Bibliotheca Van der Linde-Niemeijeriana:5627 First edition.<br /><br />The second Europaturnier the first one took place in Stuttgart in May 1939 was held in Munich in 8-14 September 1941. The event was organised by Ehrhardt Post the Chief Executive of Nazi Grossdeutscher Schachbund and was a 16 person round robin event. Max Euwe had declined the invitation for München 1941 due to his "occupational obligations" as manager of a groceries business. This time he refused to participate because Alexander Alekhine was invited. Euwe mentioned futile reasons. The real motive was Alekhine's offence of Euwe in his antisemitic articles. Alekhine wrote six Nazi articles which first appeared in the Paris newspaper Pariser Zeitung in March 1941. He wrote a series of articles for Die Deutsche Zeitung in den Niederlanden called "Jewish and Aryan Chess." The articles were reproduced in Deutsch Schachzeitung. Among others Alekhine had written about the "Jewish clique" around Euwe in World Chess Championship 1935. The event was won by Gösta Stoltz who scored a spectacular victory 1½ points ahead of Alekhine and Erik Lundin and won 1000 Reichsmarks. His trophy donated by the Ministerpräsident Ludwig Siebert of Meissen porcelain is worth close to $1000. Alexander Alekhine and Erik Lundin tied for second through third with 10½ points. Efim Bogoljubow captured fourth with a score of 9½. Bjørn Nielsen and Kurt Richter tied for fifth through sixth with scores of 9. The German Chess Federation wanted to organize an Olympiad as a counterpart to the Olympic Games at Berlin in 1936. Munich was chosen to be the venue - for the local chess club was celebrating its centenary - and teams of eight plus two reserves were invited to take part. But since the German Chess Federation was not a member of FIDE the event was not recognized as belonging to the official series of Olympiads. Twenty-two countries entered for this mammoth tournament and of these only Spain later withdrew. However the dates coincided with the international tournament at Nottingham with the result that not only was the English team unable to enter but also a number of grandmasters were absent from the top boards of their respective countries. The favorites seemed about equally handicapped by this. In all the history of chess there had been very few international matches in which the number of players on each side exceeded that in normal Olympiads. Accordingly it was difficult to compare the teams and to size up their chances beforehand. The following were considered to have good prospects of gaining a high place: Hungary a solied powerful side led by grandmaster Maroczy; the German team which had prepared itself thoroughly for this event; and countries such as Poland Sweden Yugoslavia Czechoslovakia and Austria whose chess traditions were strong. The Olympiad opened on August 17th with 208 participants the Dutch and Brazilian teams had only nine players. A chess tournament on such a scale had never been witnessed before 1680 games were played! and only the most recent Olympiads have surpassed it in size. From the very beginning the struggle was fierce. Moreover owing to the numerous adjourned games and the bye caused by the odd number of teams even those 'on the inside' found it hard to assess the situation clearly. For two-thirds of the distance the lead altered between German and Poland with the Czechs and Yugoslavs in hot pursuit. Hungary had the free day early on in the fourth round and for that reason did not figure among the chief pace-makers at first. Nevertheless the leaders had the disquieting feeling that their dangerous rival was not far behind. The Hungarians gaining one sound victory after another gradually overcame every obstacle. As the teams in front had the bye so their advantage disappeared until at last in the sixteenth round when Germany were free Hungary assumed the lead. From then onwards they held it securely entering the last round four points ahead of the field; a modest win over Norway was sufficient to give them first place. Hungary's achievement in defeating in an all-play-all tournament all the opposition without conceding a single drawn match remained unequaled in the Olympiads until 1960. Poland finished second and Germany third. In pagine intessute di finezza ermeneutica e rigore teoretico, Ricoeur disegna da un lato una fenomenologia del male: la sofferenza, la pena, il peccato, l'intreccio di male subìto e male commesso... D'altro lato ricostruisce il formarsi dell'onto-teologia e delle sue diverse teodicee, in quanto tentativo - da Agostino a Leibniz, da Kant a Hegel, fino alla paradossale dialettica spezzata di Barth - di coniugare realtà del male e credenza in un Dio onnipotente. Ma reggono queste soluzioni dinanzi alle forme estreme del male nel nostro secolo? Per Ricoeur, consumatosi il progetto stesso dell'onto-teologia, alla fine non resta che il riconoscimento dell'aporia di un male in sé ingiustificabile e di una fede che ripeta il gesto ultimo di Giobbe: credere in Dio per nulla. In margine al saggio di Ricoeur, De Benedetti, nella Postfazione, si sofferma sui riflessi teologici dell'enigma del male, dopo che la caligine di Auschwitz ha oscurato (fino a quando?) i segni di Dio.

Ricordare, dimenticare, perdonare. L'enigma del passato
br. I saggi qui raccolti, contraddistinti dalla piacevole scorrevolezza delle lezioni da cui originano, costituiscono l'essenza delle riflessioni di Paul Ricoeur sui temi della memoria e dell'oblio. Ma sono anche un contributo al dibattito storiografico che ossessivamente propone di non dimenticare. Ricoeur propugna una cultura del perdono in cui il passato gravato dalla colpa non viene cancellato o rimosso, ma mediante il riconoscimento del ricordo dell'Altro, ne allevia o toglie il peso. Una ventata d'aria fresca, si potrebbe dire, anche per il nostro paese dove il furore della memoria accende talvolta il dibattito pubblico e impedisce analisi più pacate.

Finitudine e colpa
br. Pubblicato nel 1960, Finitudine e colpa è con Verità e metodo di Gadamer il testo che inaugura l'"âge herméneutique", un'età che ha fatto dello statuto dell'interpretazione una questione dirimente per la filosofia. L'ermeneutica in quest'opera si presenta come decifrazione dei simboli e dei miti attraverso i quali è stata fatta esperienza, nelle tradizioni greca e biblica, dell'enigma del male. Simboli primari (impurità, peccato, colpevolezza) declinati nei miti del "principio e della "fine" e caratterizzati da una duplicità di senso. Di qui la definizione della ermeneutica come dialettica tra senso letterale e senso profondo dei simboli. Un modello posto sotto il motto «il simbolo dà a pensare». Sta in ciò la classicità di Finitudine e colpa: Ricoeur ha fatto del male - delle sue condizioni simboliche di possibilità - la cosa stessa della filosofia. E ha giustificato - come fosse una «seconda rivoluzione copernicana» - la legittimità dell'ermeneutica: essa è il cammino della ragione, attraverso il conflitto delle interpretazioni, per render conto del male che è già lì, e resta opaco al rischiaramento. Un compito «mai finito di distruggere gli idoli, al fine di lasciare parlare i simboli».

La persona
brossura "Ho esposto la mia propria concezione della persona nei due saggi Muore il personalismo, ritorna la persona... e Della persona: le linee originarie tra il personalismo di Mounier e la mia concezione della persona vi sono tracciate con precisione...". Nel primo saggio, celebre anche per il titolo paradossale, Ricoeur ricostruisce la morte del personalismo come prospettiva filosofica, e mostra - di contro alla irreversibile crisi di concetti come soggetto, coscienza, io - l'attualità della persona come problema insieme etico e teoretico. Nel secondo saggio, tracciando una perspicua sintesi della sua Summa (Sé come un altro), Ricoeur analizza le categorie che qualificano la persona come una "attitudine": il sé intrinsecamente mediato dall'altro e relazionato al "ciascuno", l'identità narrativa con la sua dialettica di mutamento e permanenza; una costellazione di categorie ritmata dalla struttura ternaria dell'ethos: auspicio di una vita compiuta, con e per gli altri, all'interno di istituzioni giuste. Il volume si propone di fare il punto sul complesso concetto di ellenismo e sulla sua 'fortuna', cioè sull'influenza di quell'età sulle successive fasi della storia antica e sulla cultura moderna ed è rivolto a quanti intendono approfondire un dibattitto di recente divenuto assai vivace, soprattutto in ambito anglosassone, sul periodo della storia greco-romana o, forse meglio, della storia mediterranea, che ci appare più vicino, oscillante tra frammentazione politica e translatio imperii, tra nostalgia di uno straordinario passato creativo in ambito letterario, artistico e filosofico e orgoglio di un presente raffinato, erudito e 'tecnologico', infine tra insoddisfacenti soluzioni filosofiche e attese religiose nel segno di un universalismo cosmopolita. Cronologicamente a metà strada tra Tempo e racconto (1983-85) e La memoria, la storia, l'oblio (2000), è un tipico "testo di passaggio", in cui la riflessione si muove da un estremo all'altro, scoprendo e riscoprendo aporie "paralizzanti" attraverso un confronto critico con tutta la letteratura sull'argomento: una "dialettica a sintesi aggiornata", che rinuncia alla ricerca del sapere assoluto di tipo hegeliano.

Leggere la città
brossura Ricoeur istituisce un denso parallelismo tra racconto, architettura e urbanistica, e trova nell'analisi della città contemporanea un ampio campo di riflessione fondato sulla dimensione narrativa dell'architettura e su quella temporale dello spazio architettonico. L'atto dello scrivere e quello del costruire tendono a ordinare ciò che nella vita si presenta come confuso, dandogli intelligibilità e significato. Entrambi devono anche rispondere a una necessità di protezione che comporta un'ineludibile responsabilità nei confronti della fragilità dell'umano. Come scrive Heidegger, infatti, l'uomo non abita perché costruisce, ma costruisce perché abita. Così, se il costruire rimanda all'abitare, l'abitare interpreta e discute il costruire, lo confronta con le proprie aspettative, a volte lo accusa. E la qualità del nostro essere nel mondo dipende in larga parte dalla comprensione e dal procedere di questa dinamica.

"I temi di ricerca di Giuseppe Riconda [...] possono essere sommariamente ricompresi in un arco di pensiero che va dal personalismo ontologico all'ermeneutica dell'esperienza religiosa, dall'indagine sul problema del male alla rivendicazione della concretezza dell'esperienza per la filosofia - però, bisogna dirlo, cercando sempre di porre in risalto quell'alone d'inesauribilità e di mistero che questa porta con sé. L'essere per l'amore
br. Con quest'opera Franco Ricordi, filosofo che proviene da una fondamentale esperienza artistica nel mondo del teatro, ha inteso indicare un nuovo corso del pensiero occidentale: il nichilismo, dopo Nietzsche, Heidegger, Severino, è giunto ad un bivio teoretico analogo a quello denunciato da Jaspers di fronte alla bomba atomica. Pertanto la riflessione sull'Amore, che solo pochi grandi poeti-filosofi hanno inteso (tra questi Dante, Shakespeare, Leopardi, Kleist), diviene la via maestra per inoltrarsi in un nuovo ambito del pensiero. L'uomo è proteso a disconoscere l'essenza dell'Amore, pur essendo da esso sovrastato (Omnia vincit Amor). Solo la riflessione sul "Nulla eterno", scrigno dell'Amore e possibilità di superamento del nichilismo, lascia intravedere la crisi estetica, nel venir meno poetico e teatrale del "verso endecasillabo", e la crisi etica, nell'impossibilità di una "Sovrapolitica", dopo la devastante esperienza del secolo XX.

Ma quella di Pasolini fu una saggistica intuitiva delle condizioni di verità e libertà in cui si trovava, e ancora si trova, il nostro paese. Egli ha per primo denunciato il "Potere dell'Apparire" che, soprattutto a ridosso del fenomeno televisivo, si è imposto in maniera totalitaria e devastante al di sopra di ogni parte politica e ideologica. Più che mai vicino alle tesi di Heidegger, della Arendt e di Gunther Anders, il suo pensiero poetico si sforza di recuperare quella "Parola" (e il suo Teatro si rivela essenziale viatico) che distingue in maniera categorica la diversità dell'essere dall'omologazione dell'apparire nella nostra epoca.

Shakespeare filosofo dell'essere. L'influenza del poeta drammaturgo sul mondo moderno e contemporaneo

Il massimo poeta e drammaturgo inglese è stato anche un abissale filosofo, che più di ogni altro ha presagito il pensiero moderno-contemporaneo, influenzandolo in maniera determinante: anticipando la rivoluzione filosofico-poetica di Nietzsche, Shakespeare ha sedimentato la problematica sollevata, seppure in maniera diversa, da Heidegger, Jaspers, Sartre, Anders, Gadamer, Lévinas, Severino: la riflessione sul senso dell'essere. È questo il grande leitmotiv del teatro shakespeariano, l'oscillazione continua fra l'essere e il nulla, che si stempera in tutta la sua drammaturgia, collocandola a metà fra Eschilo e Leopardi, i due poeti-filosofi che proprio Severino ha indicato come l'inizio e il compimento del nichilismo occidentale. Il libro di Ricordi prende in esame l'intero corpus shakespeariano, in una suddivisione geografica che concepisce la drammaturgia di Shakespeare "più filosofica e più elevata della storia", e intravedendo in essa la denuncia di un nuovo "totalitarismo spettacolare".
