Sinisgalli è anche consapevole che la sua poesia non può essere utilizzata per urlare la rabbia di un riscatto. Però, da direttore di «Civiltà delle macchine», sa che può svolgere un ruolo di sollecitazione rispetto ad una Basilicata e ai suoi ritardi. Sa di avere a disposizione uno strumento ben più potente della sua stessa poesia: la sua Rivista. E non esita ad utilizzarla. Più che essere il primo violino, preferisce salire sul podio e dirigere l'orchestra con la sua bacchetta (Biagio Russo). Apparse nel 1827 e subito salutate come «il libro meglio scritto del secolo», le «Operette morali» si caratterizzano per una scrittura cristallina e si compongono di una serie di dialoghi e novelle spesso declinati in chiave umoristica per indurre i lettori al sorriso. Al di sotto di questa leggerezza di superficie vi trovano però espressione le idee di Leopardi sull'amara condizione dell'uomo e sulle possibili vie di fuga. Dopo aver ragionato sui lunghi tempi di composizione, sulla genesi dei testi e sull'evoluzione delle «Operette», l'autore illustra il ruolo che il «ridere» ha nel loro impianto: un riso che può essere forse inteso come la lezione più profonda e aperta di questo capolavoro della nostra letteratura.

Risultato di una decennale fascinazione per la prolifica autrice nippo-tedesca Yoko Tawada, il volume costituisce la prima monografia in lingua italiana su una figura e un'opera già ampiamente analizzate in Europa e oltreoceano. Se da una parte s'intende presentare l'opera di Tawada e le complesse articolazioni della sua scrittura in termini di appartenenza, genere, identità ed estraneità, dall'altra viene elaborato un confronto con il pensiero di Kafka. Si tratta infatti di uno scrittore emblematico dell'idea di contatto tra forme (trans)culturali e (trans)identitarie. Il percorso delineato formalizza tale confronto, in primo luogo intorno alla loro concezione di linguaggio e di estraneità e, secondariamente, sulle modalità rappresentative della metamorfosi; intesa sia in un'accezione "fisica", sia di "trasformazione e peregrinazione" testuale ed estetica.
