Heinrich Conried became general manager of the New York Metropolitan Opera in 1903 and remained until Gatti-Casazza took over in 1908. He is particularly distinguished as having been responsible for bringing Enrico Caruso to the Met in 1903 and later Fremstad and Farrar. The American premieres of both Parsifal and Salome were both presented under his stewardship. unknown

Noting a change in the title of a work. Black border frame on note old paper clip marking on top left otherwise good condition. Thomas Faed was a Scottish painter in oils and water colour of genre portraits interiors and domestic scenes. It is said Faed had done for Scottish art what Robert Burns did for Scottish song. Pathos being the staple of his success. He received his art education in the school of design Edinburgh and was elected an associate of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1849. He went to London three years later was elected an associate of the Royal Academy in 1861 and academician in 1864 and retired in 1893. Dated Royal Seahouse Hotel Worthing. Sunday 1863 to the editor of The Athenaeum. William Hepworth Dixon a friend and English historian and traveler. Noting a change in the title of his 1864 Academy work Bajth Fajther and Mither and hoping it can be correctly noted as "the Athenaeum is likely to be the first article on the exhibition . " Noting his joyous time by the sea. Baith Faither and Mither was shown by Faed in the 1864 Royal Academy exhibition and extensively reviewed. Thomas Faed was a Scottish painter in oils and water colour of genre portraits interiors and domestic scenes. It is said Faed had done for Scottish art what Robert Burns did for Scottish song. Argyll was married three times. He married firstly Lady Elizabeth Georgiana Leveson-Gower eldest daughter of George Sutherland-Leveson-Gower 2nd Duke of Sutherland in 1844.They had five sons and seven daughters. One of his sons was John Campbell 9th Duke of Argyll 6 August 1845 - 2 May 1914 he married Princess Louise of the United Kingdom on 21 March 1871. unknown

Copland thanks Hinrichsen for his letter in which his correspondent apparently intended to enclose a copy of an edited version of Copland's article entitled "A Modernist Defends Modern Music" but did not. Copland will be leaving for Europe the next day and will not be back until late December. "I trust this will not cause any inconvenience for you. I am returning a slightly edited version of the biographical note you mailed me." Together with: A photocopy of the 9-page edited article. Slightly browned; upper left corner of letter slightly creased and with small staple holes not affecting text. Copland is regarded as a quintessentially American composer particularly noted for his compositions for ballet Appalachian Spring Billy the Kid and Rodeo and his Fanfare for the Common Man evocative of the vastness of the American landscape and pioneer spirit of the country. Hungarian-Jewish composer Lajos Lajtai achieved early success with his operettas in Budapest but was forced to emigrate to Sweden due to the rise of Nazism. Bookseller's ticket to pastedown. Light internal spotting; heavier to edges. Maps a little misfolded. Slight damp-marking to boards. Jacket features a number of significant losses as well as closed tears and chips though both flaps and the rear blurb are fully intact as is the cover image. Very rarely seen with the jacket in any condition. Very good. Mason's first adventure took him to Canada in 1920 and he produced this book after spending two years observing the local tribes and hunting the wildlife.
