Original typescript TLS and an important historical document signed by the Minister of Education. 25x19 cm. In Turkish Latin letters. 1 p. Sent to "Musiki Muallim Mektebi" i.e. The school of music teachers. A document stating that the relevant travel planned in advance and submitted to the Ministry of National Education is deemed appropriate but stating that the relevant ministry cannot provide financial assistance. Ahmet Adnan Saygun was a Turkish composer musicologist and writer on music. One of a group of composers known as the Turkish Five who pioneered western classical music in Turkey his works show a mastery of Western musical practice while also incorporating traditional Turkish folk songs and culture. When alluding to folk elements he tends to spotlight one note of the scale and weave a melody around it based on a Turkish mode. His extensive output includes five symphonies five operas two piano concertos concertos for violin viola and cello and a wide range of chamber and choral works. The Times called him "the grand old man of Turkish music who was to his country what Jean Sibelius is to Finland what Manuel de Falla is to Spain and what B�la Bart�k is to Hungary". Following the operas he was neglected in Ankara State Conservatory by its founder Paul Hindemith. He moved to Istanbul as part of the theory faculty at the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory. In 1936 B�la Bart�k visited Turkey to research the native folk music. Saygun accompanied Bart�k on his travels around the country collecting and transcribing folk songs all through the Anatolia and Osmaniye a region of Adana Turkey. Saygun gained immense knowledge of Bart�k's style of writing during this trip and learned a great deal about string quartets: they became great friends. In 1939 he was invited back to Ankara to further promote Western musical activities and practices. A year later he formed his own organization Ses ve Tel Birligi which showcased recitals and concerts throughout the country further developing public knowledge of Western classical music. Gazimihal was a Turkish musicologist researcher historian and writer. It contains five stories as in original first: "The Happy Prince" "The Nightingale and the Rose" "The Selfish Giant" "The Devoted Friend" and "The Remarkable Rocket". Happy prince is allegorical to the social class system of Victorian England-the wealth of the upper classes versus the impoverishment of the poor. The statue of the prince has its jewels delivered to the poor via the swallow now on top of the hill the prince can see the poverty that had previously been shielded from him. Eventually the statue loses all its material wealth; he is richer inside for helping the needy but no longer outside and the swallow dies. The people remove the prince statue now that he is plain and discuss the next statue that will replace him because material wealth is most important to them. Nurettin Nureddin Sevin 1900-1975 was a Turkish writer and translator. After he graduated from Istanbul Robert College 1917 and the Teacher Training School for Men 1923 he studied at the West Theatre School in London. When he returned to Turkey 1923 he worked as a teacher in Istanbul at Kabatas High School for Boys and as a faculty member at the Faculty of Political Sciences and the State Conservatory. He is buried in Besiktas Yahya Efendi Graveyard. First Modern Turkish Edition. Nureddin Sevin who was also a poet is known for his plays and critiques together with his translations from classical and contemporary western writers. The translator Itzik Feffer 1900 �1952 �was a Soviet Yiddish poet executed on the Night of the Murdered Poets during Joseph Stalin's purges�During the Second World War he was a military reporter with the rank of colonel and was vice chairman of the Soviet Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee JAC. He and Solomon Mikhoels traveled to the United States in 1943 in a well-documented fund-raising trip. In 1948 after the assassination of the JAC Chairman Solomon Mikhoels Feffer along with other JAC members was arrested and accused of treason. Feffer had been an informer for the NKVD predecessor of the KGB since 1943. FeFfer reportedly cooperated with the investigation providing false information that would lead to the arrest and indictment of over a hundred people but at the trial he made openly nationalistic statements and expressed pride in his Jewish identity. Feffer had also allegedly been one of the �most loyal and conformist Yiddish poets� who had helped to enforce strict ideological control over other Yiddish writers and had a history of denouncing colleagues for their �nationalistic hysteria�. However in 1952 Feffer along with other defendants was tried at a closed JAC trial and executed on August 12 1952 at Lubyanka prison�.The American concert singer and actor Paul Robeson met Feffer on July 8 1943 in New York during a Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee event chaired by Albert Einstein one of the largest pro-Soviet rallies ever held in the United States. After the rally Paul Robeson and his wife Eslanda Robeson befriended Feffer and Mikhoels. Six years later in June 1949 during the 150th anniversary celebration of the birth of Alexander Pushkin Robeson visited the Soviet Union to sing in concert. According to David Horowitz: �In America the question "What happened to Itzik Feffer" entered the currency of political debate. There was talk in intellectual circles that Jews were being killed in a new Soviet purge and that Feffer was one of them. It was to quell such rumors that Robeson asked to see his old friend but he was told by Soviet officials that he would have to wait. Eventually he was informed that the poet was vacationing in the Crimea and would see him as soon as he returned. The reality was that Feffer had already been in prison for a half year and his Soviet captors did not want to bring him to Robeson immediately because he had become emaciated from lack of food. While Robeson waited in Moscow Stalin's police brought Feffer out of prison put him the care of doctors and began fattening him up for the interview. When he looked sufficiently healthy he was brought to Moscow. The two men met in a room that was under secret surveillance. Feffer knew he could not speak freely. When Robeson asked how he was he drew his finger nervously across his throat and motioned with his eyes and lips to his American comrade. They're goin to kill us he said. When you return to America you must speak out and save us.� During his concert in Tchaikovsky Hall on June 14 - which was broadcast across the entire country - Robeson publicly paid tribute to Feffer and the late Mikhoels singing the Vilna Partisan song �Zog Nit Keynmol� in both Russian and Yiddish�.Feffer was a prolific poet who wrote almost exclusively in Yiddish and his poems were widely translated into Russian and Ukrainian. He is considered one of the greatest Soviet poets in the Yiddish language and his poems were widely admired inside and outside Russia� Wikipedia 2019.
