n.p.: n.a. 1800. Painting on vellum 3� by 4� inches. Finely detailed depicting St. Francis of Assisi the Seraphic Doctor in great detail. St. Francis complete with stigmata is accompanied by a crucifix thorns a flagellum a book resting on a skull and a flowering plant supported by a decorative border. There is no signature that we can discern. The miniature is mounted on card with a hinged mat of brown cloth. Dimensions of the mat are 5� by 8 inches. A collection label is pasted beside the miniature not visible when the mat is closed " Collection of A. & C. Rub Hollywood California.". On the reverse in ink and an unknown hand is inscribed "A gift from Christian Rub Moving Picture Actor. 1935." Christian Rub whose wife's name was Amy was an Austrian actor with over 100 movies to his credit. His career spanned from silent films until 1952. He was the basis for the animation of Gepetto and also Gepetto's voice in Walt Disney's 'Pinocchio'. The vellum is lightly age-soiled but still bright and vibrant; the reverse of the mount has some old staining but overall this gives a very good appearance. n.a. hardcover

An excellent copy of this scarce miniature Marian Parry is an author poet illustrator and watercolor artist. Her books have been published by Knopf Simon & Schuster Greenwillow Heritage Press and Limited Editions Pharos Verlag Switzerland and Scholastic Books. She has had numerous one-person shows. Her work is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York the Houghton Library of Harvard University and the Smith College Rare Book Room. The main archive of her work is in the print collection of the Boston Public Library. Founder and senior instructor of the Watercolor Program for the Radcliffe Seminars at Harvard University she was a fellow in the Bunting Fellowship Program at Radcliffe.
