‎Summary The volume addresses the issue of political celebration in early modern Venice. Dealing with processional orders and iconographic programs, historiographical narratives and urbanistic canons, stylistic features and diplomatic accounts, the interdisciplinary contributions gathered in these pages aim to question the performative effectiveness and the social consistency of the so called 'myth' of Venice: a system of symbols, beliefs and meanings offering a self-portrait of the ruling elite, the Venetian patriciate. In order to do so, the volume calls for a spatial turn in Venetian studies, blurring the boundaries between institutionalized and unofficial ceremonial spaces and considering their ongoing interaction in representing the rule of the Serenissima. The twelve chapters move from Palazzo Ducale to the Venetian streets and from the city of Venice to its dominions, thus widening considerably the range of social and political actors and audiences involved in the analysis. ‎Summary The focus of the Latin Vulgaire - Latin Tardif book series lies on the complex and multifaceted problem of late and so-called vulgar Latin. Specifically, starting out from a wide range of methodological approaches involving all levels of language, the series' main purpose is to investigate how Classical Latin (i.e. the language used in the period from ca. 100 BC to AD 100 by authors such as Cicero, Horace and Vergil) underwent the changes during the late period (i.e. mainly between the 3rd and the 7th century AD) that resulted in (the early stages of) the Romance languages. To this purpose, three main types of linguistic sources are taken into consideration. First, direct Latin sources, which include for instance texts written by people with a lesser level of literacy (e.g. inscriptions, soldiers' letters), or by fully literate authors reproducing colloquial language deliberately (e.g. Petronius, Apuleius). Second, indirect Latin sources, which consist of metalinguistic testimonies of ancient authors (mainly, but not exclusively, grammarians) dealing with the language variation typical of their time and region. And third, the Romance idioms themselves: by comparing sources in at least two Romance varieties, one may reconstruct Latin words or forms which were used widely in spoken usage but, for different reasons, are not attested in any extant source. Hard cover 29 cm 300 pp. ISBN: 978-9925-7455-4-8.<br /><br />The volume comprises an introduction and 15 thematic chapters with a strong methodological focus on the spatial analysis of ritual and cult by both established and young scholars. It is organised around three major themes: the relationship between sacred landscapes socio-political units and socio-economic networks; experiencing sacred landscapes; and the employment of artefacts and agency in the creation and perception of sacred space. The authors have contributed case studies from across the Mediterranean across a very broad chronological span and focused on both inter- and intra-site spatial approaches. The terms 'ritual' and 'cult' have been used broadly to include sanctuaries as well as domestic and funerary spheres of life. Tra le tavole anche le incisioni allegoriche di J.F.Greuter, e Claude Mellan, da Pietro da Cortona, Guido Reni, Andrea Sacchi; alcune mostrano disegni di giardini, strutture, vasi e attrezzi per il giardinaggio, molti sono dedicati alle varie specie di fiori e alle composizioni floreali.
