About the Book:- The Present volume is supplementary to my “ Indian Architecture: its Psychology, Structure and History, “which the Muhammadan and British periods, but it has a wider scope as a study of the political, social, religious and artistic aspects of Indo-Aryan civilisation, as revealed in the ancient and medieval monuments of India. For the chronological and statistical framework of it. I have mostly used the data furnished by such well-known authorities as professor T. W. Thys Davids “Buddhist India,” Mr. Vincent Smth’s “ Early History of India,: and Dr. Barnett’s “Antiquities the architecture sculpture and painting here illustrated. If my reading is wrong my critics will convict me of error from the same sources. About the Author:-Ernest Binfield Havell (1861 –1934), who published under the name E.B. Havell, was an influential English arts administrator, art historian and author of numerous books about Indian art and architecture. He was a member of the Havell family of artists and art educators. He was the principal of the Government School of Art, Calcutta from 1896 to 1905, where, along with Abanindranath Tagore, he developed a style of art and art education based on Indian rather than Western models, which led to the foundation of the Bengal school of art. He published two valuable articles on Indian art in the October 1902 and January 1903 issues of a well known art journal of London, The Studio. In January 1906 he left for England on long leave and finally in 1908, he was removed from the post. He married Angelique Wilhelmina Jacobsen, daughter of a Danish navy officer in 1895 at St Giles, London, Middlesex, England. The couple had a daughter, Sonia Joyce Havell in 1902. He worked at the Ottoman Bank, had some mining privileges in the last years of the Ottoman state, and published many articles and books on the history and archeology of Istanbul and especially Galata and Pera. He immigrated to Athens in 1936 and died there.
