‎Deze publicatie zal voor de eerste keer de geschiedenis beschrijven van de vier broers die elk op hun terrein tussen 1900 en 1950 een belangrijke rol speelden in de culturele en politieke wereld in Vlaanderen. Louis Franck (1868-1937) was advocaat, gemeenteraadslid, volksvertegenwoordiger, minister van kolonien en gouverneur van de Nationale Bank. Bij de aanval van het Duitse leger in oktober 1914 onderhandelde hij (op gevaar van eigen leven) met de Duitse bevelhebbers om Antwerpen te vrijwaren van een meedogenloos bombardement. Frans Franck (1872-1932) was de oprichter van de Kapel en Kunst van Heden, twee verenigingen die niet alleen in de metropool maar in gans Vlaanderen een belangrijke rol speelden. Samen met zijn broer Charles (1870-1935), schonk Frans een uitzonderlijke reeks kunstwerken (vooral werken van Ensor, Rik Wouters en Jakob Smits) uit hun persoonlijke collectie aan het KMSKA. Beide mecenassen waren zaakvoerder van de firma Franck die als decoratiebedrijf internationale faam genoot. Antoine Franck (1883-1964) werkte als advocaat en adviseerde als maritiem specialist o.a. de firma's CMB NV en Red Star Line. Vorig jaar werden in een veilinghuis in New York nog negen schilderijen (o.a. Van Gogh, Ensore en Picasso) uit de collectie van de nazaten van Louis Franck jr. geveild voor bijna 100 miljoen USD. Het boek wordt gedrukt op slechts 2000 ex. met tweetalige tekst (Engels-Nederlands) en meer dan 465 illustraties op 304 bladzijden. Auteur Erwin Joos, conservator van het Eugeen Van Mieghem Museum, werkte meer dan 30 jaar aan dit boek en kon rekenen op de steun en uniek nooit eerder gepubliceerd fotomateriaal van de familie.‎

‎Dit boek is het vijfde in de reeks over periodes of thema's uit het oeuvre van Eugeen Van Mieghem (1875-1930). In dit boek beschrijft de auteur hoe na vijf jaren van artistieke stilte na het overlijden van zijn vrouw in 1905, Eugeen van Mieghem, rond 1910 opnieuw deelnam aan de jaarlijkse exposities van de Antwerpse vereniging Kunst Van Heden. Op hun salons werden soms ensembles getoond van belangrijke buitenlandse kunstenaars. Vooral het oeuvre van Jean-Louis Forain leek Van Mieghem te inspireren in zijn composities over het uitgaansleven in de Antwerpse binnenstad. Van Mieghem exposeerde vanaf 1912 in binnen- en buitenland naast meesters als James Ensor en Rik Wouters. Vooral die twee kunstenaars werden bij de Antwerpse burgerij gepromoot door Frans Franck. In 1912 hield Van Mieghem in het Antwerps Koninklijk Kunstverbond zijn eerste individuele tentoonstelling waarop kunstcritici zeer enthousiast reageerden. Een jaar later kocht Max Rooses een ganse verzameling pastellen van Van Mieghem en schonk ze aan het Museum Plantin-Moretus. Dit boek over zijn oorlogsoeuvre geeft een chronologisch overzicht van de belangrijkste gebeurtenissen die de kunstenaar tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog beleefde of via de toenmalige pers of Duitse propaganda vernam.‎
