‎Summary The category of the "national school", paramount for the emerging discipline of art history in the 19th century, tended to dismiss the crucial encounters, confrontations and exchanges prompted by the fact that artists commonly travelled abroad, especially for the purposes of education and training. The aim of this volume is to address the complexities of this under-researched phenomenon, shedding light on the motivations and impact of transnational art education on artists' careers, on the actors and educational institutions involved (e.g. state-run academies, private schools or studios, museums, outdoor practices) and on the growing international networks connecting artists, patrons, collectors, dealers, critics and scholars. Even though the nation was a major category for historical actors of the period, it is essential to question the validity of the national framework as an analytical tool for current scholarship: our aim is therefore to propose a new reading of 19th-century art worlds based on the idea of circulations, entanglements and revised geographies. In the 19th century the destinations and itineraries of art students were reshaped by changing artistic trends and reputations, as well as by larger economic and geopolitical transformations engendered by the formation of new nation states and the remapping of Empires. The more or less temporary expatriations and the experience of difference during the key-period of artistic training generated divergent individual responses to foreign artistic contexts. Their responses were formed amidst persistent tensions between the elaboration of ?national art? and the appeal to artistic values that crossed national boundaries. Examining both recurring patterns as well as individual examples, the contributors to the volume analyze career strategies that took advantage of resources labeled as "foreign" and explore the implications of an increasingly internationalized art market for the choices of aspiring artists. Beyond the emphasis on the circulation of people/actors, specific attention is given to the transfers of teaching methods, techniques and art theoretical discourses between artistic centers. Contributions also take into consideration the more or less precarious living conditions of art students abroad, their modes of socialization and group formations, the experience of the city and participation in artistic and intellectual circles. Richter was one of the founders of EXAT 51 group (Experimental Atelier) and an active participant of the international New Tendencies movement; he authored national pavilions for international fairs, architectural projects for public and residential buildings, and designs in the area of urbanism. Vjenceslav Richter (Omilje, 1917 - Zagreb, 2002), architect and artist, was one of the key figures in Croatian art history who played a significant role within the context of European modernism.‎

‎Summary Il volume esplora il nesso tra immutabilit e cambiamento come chiave della relazione tra uomo e Dio nel pensiero di Filone di Alessandria, sullo sfondo del rapporto tra ermeneutica biblica e tradizione platonica. A partire dall'identit istituita tra Dio ed Essere (Ex. 3,14 - LXX), nei testi dell'autore si configura una differenza fondamentale tra il divino, essenzialmente estraneo al divenire, in virt di una trascendenza assoluta assegnata al Principio e propria del platonismo di et imperiale, e il cosmo e l'uomo, contrassegnati invece dalla condizione originata e mutevole, descritta come fonte di fatica e instabilit . A partire da un'analisi terminologica e teoretica che articola piano ontologico e metafisico, mantenendo il filo ermeneutico della polarit tra trascendenza e mutamento, si indaga poi il percorso etico e noetico proposto all'uomo, tra conoscenza e assimilazione a un Dio Essere inconoscibile e differente. Emerge cos la cifra del paradosso: strumento decisivo nello stoicismo, esso viene mutuato e trasformato da Filone, fino a diventare la chiave interpretativa del movimento di rinuncia del saggio, verso una vera e propria etica della trascendenza. Il tema e l'autore analizzati si prestano a illuminare in modo singolare il tornante della filosofia nel primo secolo, nel dibattito tra scuole filosofiche e tradizioni religiose, secondo una lettura positiva dell'eclettismo. La questione del rapporto tra metafisica ed etica, al centro di questa ricerca, non solo consente di mettere in luce le scelte originali di Filone nell'evoluzione del platonismo, ma genera anche delle risonanze che giungono fino a lambire il contemporaneo, sollevando la questione del rapporto tra trascendenza e cura di s, nella forma del divenire se stessi. Legatura in cartonato colorato. L’opera è dedicata a Filippo Valori, l'ambasciatore fiorentino del papa. Edizione originale, assai rara. L'opuscolo di Franscesco Bocchi prende spunto dall'episodio di un fulmine abbattutosi sulla cupola di Santa Maria del Fiore a Firenze, per indirizzare il suo racconto sul tema del restauro di quello che era considerato il manufatto simbolo della città. Sebbene pubblicato solo nel 1604 la lettera è datata in calce Firenze Febbraio 1600, subito dopo che la lanterna era stata danneggiata. Il restauro di quella fu affidato a Gherardo Mechini, che lo completò in un tempo assai breve; utilizzò un complesso sistema di ponteggi e dispositivi di sollevamento. In un contesto di generale esaltazione della storia dell’arte fiorentina, in queste pagine si leggono parole di estrema lode per la bellezza e lo splendore della cupola e della lanterna, un'opera di altissimo ingegno la cui maestà suscita in chi la guarda "primo laetitia, deinde, cum appropinquant, admiratio, postremo stupor". L'esaltazione si estende ovviamente all'artefice, Filippo Brunelleschi, che, si dice, esprime la razionalità nell'arte attraverso l'esempio degli antichi. A sostegno di una teoria che esalta le origini del rinascimento fiorentino, Bocchi sembra chiamare in causa anche Michelangelo Buonarroti "iure optimo" che, accingendosi alla costruzione della cupola del Sacrario Laurenziano, afferma, rispondendo a chi glielo chiedeva, che nessun architetto aveva fatto di meglio dopo l'artificio di Filippo. Francesco Bocchi (1548-1618) fu un erudito italiano che, soggiornando a Firenze, scrisse una guida delle bellezze della città di Firenze, e fu autore anche di un'opera sulla musica e di una sulla statua di San Giorgio di Donatello. Filippo Brunelleschi (1377-1446), architetto, ingegnere escultore fiorentino, attende ai lavori della cupola del Duomo di Firenze a partire dal 1418 e fino alla sua morte, al principio offrendo la sua consulenza per risolvere la soluzione della costruzione della cupola assieme al Ghiberti e a Battista d'Antonio, in qualità di "provveditore alla costruzione della cupola". La cupola presentava un tamburo ottagono che insisteva su una struttura gotica, il cui sistema di forze Brunelleschi volle coordinare e risolvere, attraverso la cupola, nella lanterna che la chiude.‎

This volume is founded on the belief that 'the unprecedented empirical power of digital tools and archives offers a unique chance to rethink the categories of literary study' (F. Moretti). The book's first section presents cases studies applying 'quantitative' criticism based on the linguistic and stylistic use of frequency wordlists which, thanks to digital tools and to a larger literature, are becoming more easily accessible and more powerful. The chapters of this section lead the reader from an application of stylometry within a traditional critical exercise, via the structured use of frequency indexing as a warning light for cultural or stylistic phenomena undetectable to the naked eye, to more technical corpus analysis experiments based on linguistic evolution or authorship attribution.
