‎Summary In the essays collected in this volume, leading scholars from Croatia, the Czech Republic, and Poland, as well musicologists from Western Europe, take on the challenge of fulfilling a historiographical and cultural gap in music history by restoring the place of the countries of Central Europe that, as Milan Kundera put it succinctly, 'vanished from the map of the West'. The opportunity to consider 'other' renaissances enlarges the historiographical perspectives of Renaissance musicology, going beyond the traditional focus on the Franco-Flemish or Franco-Italian axis, and opens new scenarios on unexplored Renaissance music. What was it that happened on a cultural and musical level on the Dalmatian coast - influenced by the economic boost of a powerful Venice? The same question emerges when considering Habsburg Prague and its renewed, central role in the European political theatre, and as a reaffirmed capital that inaugurated a period of economic and cultural renaissance for the Bohemian Kingdom. How did the secularization process evolve in these territories, caught between the religion wars following the Counter-Reformation in the West, and the Turkish threat on the East? What peculiar features does the musical production of these territories reveal? The preference accorded to the expression Renaissance Music is not to be intended as a shortcut. The intention of the contributing scholars is to focus on, and to handle independently, the endogenous cultural production without considering it only as a phenomenon of importation or as the mere imitation of an existing model. In this way, borders reveal a dialectical function in the context of musical Humanism, revealing here, maybe for the first time, an authentic European dimension. ‎Ria Bosman (b. 1956, Beveren-Waas) is fascinated by colour and material. Her abstract oeuvre encompasses a wide range of works, including sketches and workbooks, works on paper, textile and object paintings, and monumental leather and textile structures. Her work lies at the interface between textile and painting, with a clear emphasis on the latter. A constant in her oeuvre is the systematic investigation of the effects of colour: on form, on other colours, on a variety of materials and on the surrounding space. Overwegingen is a publication by Posture Editions containing 75 works on paper. The drawings are like thought exercises, contemplative shifts, enigmatic rustlings, inner monologues, hesitant movements, whispers across fields of colour, rhythmic movements in the artist's studio. Some are preparations for her monumental fabrics, others are simply solf ge for the mind. All drawings in the book were painted between 2020 and 2025 with acrylic paint on drawing blocks. Marieke De Mar , winner of the Confituur book prize for her recent novel ?Ik ga naar de schapen?. Especially for the book, she is writing a short story inspired by Ria's drawing series. This book is published in the context of the exhibition ?OP HET RITME VAN DE STILTE? (23.03?-?09.06.2025) and realised with the support of Be-Part Platform for Contemporary Art Kortrijk & Waregem. ‎An edited volume reflecting upon the transnational mobility of sculptors and its implications for the artists and their art during the long nineteenth century. This volume analyses the international mobility of sculptors and their work in the nineteenth century. The creation of nation-states at that time coincided with an increasingly international outlook shared by artists, their commissioners, sellers, buyers and critics. Sculptors were encouraged to study abroad, and were recognized for their experience and success overseas. As they were very much dependent on commissions, they had to travel to provide for their revenues. While abroad, they were nonetheless expected to represent their nation and showcase their e essays in this collection reflect upon the theoretical and practical implications of the many aspects of transnationality, travel and (cultural) mobility for nineteenth-century sculptors, their work and their careers, by addressing the role of, among others, education, execution, commissions, exhibitions, art criticism and the art market. The main focus is on French, Belgian and Italian sculptors and their works but other countries are represented too, and well-known as well as lesser-known sculptors, through general articles and case studies. Tom Verschaffel is professor in cultural history at KU Leuven. His research concerns the intellectual and cultural history of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and more specifically the history of historical writing, the popular representation of history and cultural nationalism, the history of cultural infrastructure and of cultural transfers. ‎Summary The paintings for Philip II, known as the Poesie, are among the most frequently discussed works of art that address a favored Renaissance theme, the influence of the pagan gods on human actions. The commission is traceable to 1549, when Emperor Charles V summoned the artist to Augsburg following Prince Philip's triumphal parade through the empire as his father's heir apparent. The cycle that took shape comprises Danae and Venus and Adonis (Madrid, Prado); Diana and Actaeon and Diana and Callisto (Edinburgh, National Gallery of Scotland); Perseus and Andromeda (London, Wallace Collection) and Europa (Boston, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum). These masterpieces of the artist's mature period can be considered the most important Renaissance grouping of mythological paintings executed by a single artist. The author proposes that Philip's expected elevation prompted the commission and that the subjects form a cohesive program of Hapsburg ethical views and political concerns, and that Titian created new visual idioms to represent the complex issues which the subjects address in part by engaging themes with a significant prior history in family patronage. While Titian's Poesie for Philip II are well known monuments of western culture, they have never before been investigated with this focus. The dispersal of the pictures' in the seventeenth century resulted in a scholarly focus on the single pictures and a concentration on their sensual aspects. In Aretino, a Venetian dialogue on painting, Titian's friend and apologist Lodovico Dolce is a spokesman for art that following poetry, entices through beauty, while hiding important truths beneath the veil of allegory. This study analyzes the ways in which Titian incorporates new concepts of sensuality and spirituality in a Venetian vernacular to create masterpieces whose originality and ravishing beauty belie their didactic content.‎
