ARCHITECTURE GLASS PANEL HEATING. DAVIS Ralph J.
Glassheat by Continental: heated with radiant electric heating. Salesman sample photo portfolio for Glassheat radiant heaters with images of many Mid-Century Modern homes exteriors and interiors in the Pacific Northwest and California.
New York NY & Boise ID: Continental Radiant Glass Heating Corp. ca. 1954. Oblong 4to. 21 leaves unnumbered mylar sleeves including 21 silver gelatin photographs 20 sized 8 x 10 in. many w/ multiple images w/in the photo 1 sized 5 x 7 in.; several w/ text w/in negative others w/ photographers stamps on versos. Recent post-binder gilt stamping on front cover screw posts at gutter margin NF. An exceptional and scarce salesman sample photograph portfolio for the Continental Radiant Glass Company which specialized in tempered glass electric radiant heating panels which could be installed below windows in walls ceilings laboratories and more. First manufactured by Continental after World War II these radiant heating units featured glass element panels made from tempered glass with their circuit spray painted or painted on backs of the units offering soothing war infrared radiant heat in a variety of applications. The panels were durable and offered years of much lower priced heating bills and proved popular in the decades after World War II. These photos show product displays and equipment at the Grant County Fair and other trade shows as well as a Dodge panel van delivery truck for Radiant Glassheat Inc. of Seattle. Also included are a night shot of a window display in downtown Vancouver WA next to the Lotus Cafe along with satisfied customers such as the Needles Municipal Hospital the Standard Oil Co. of California Culver City Plant offices Ray Dull’s Mid-Century ranch home in Oroville WA a luxurious Mid-Century Modern home in Salt Lake City UT -- the “All Electric†model home and others. Over time the panels would eventually crack and the elements cease working and many of the companies including Continental later ceased manufacturing the tempered glass panels. However a number of companies have recently begun producing similarly sized and durable ceramic heat elements which easily can fit into the original radiant heaters. Davis 1899-1988 was longtime salesman and electrician and owner of Radiant Glassheat of Boise Inc. which also owned the electrical heating and ventilation branch in Seattle WA. Several of the photos were shot by Forde Photographers in Seattle WA which included Art Forde John Hardin and Dick Cameron and are best remembered for their many photographs taken for the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair Century 21 Exposition. No similar collections of images on Worldcat; See: Peter Tonge Radiant Glass Heat -- One Way to Cut Excessive Heat Cost Christian Science Monitor Jan. 14 1981; Radiant Heater Robert L. ARCHITECTURE ITALIAN Berti Giambattista.
Il Vignola Illustrato da Giambattista Berti Architetto Vicentino.
Padova Padua Italy.: Presso I Fratelli Gamba Editori. First Edition. 1822. Volume entitled "Il Vignola. Illustrated by Giambattista Berti Architect of Vicentino" 11 x 8 inches 103 numbered pages plus 33 pages of delicately rendered architectural plates by Berti. The impression made by the copper engraving plates is clearly present on each page but for reasons unknown the 33 architectural pages have been folded into quadrants presumably following the printing and prior to binding. Some pages have short breaks in the horizontal fold at the free edge and the last eight pages have an 8 inch triangulated fold extending from the middle of the free edge to the page bottom close to the bound edge. Text at beginning of volume printed on laid paper while the architectural plates are printed on wove paper. The volume has suffered from unfortunate maintenance with small soiling spots on two plates. Amazingly the other 31 plates remain overall in good condition. An impressive architectural study. . ARCHITECTURE MEXICO. MONDRAGON Eulalio.
Interesting architectural catalogue with 18 original photographs of Jazz Age homes built by Mondragon in and around present day Mexico City including imposing homes of brick & stone as well as Spanish Style stucco bungalows many with ornamental ironwork fences balconies and gates.
General Anaya D.F. Mexico: Ave Monte Blanco 43 ca. 1928-1930. Oblong 4to. 28 pp unpaginated on thick black card stock w/ 18 original silver gelatin photographs sized from 2.5 x 3.75 in. up to 5 x 7 in. majority tipped-in or mounted with black corners some with caption included in the negative at lower fore-edge a few with ink annotations at fore-edge indicating Mondragon and the client’s name. Contemporary textured gray boards photo album sewn w/ dark gray-green leather tie at gutter margin through two holes minor rubbing scuffing to fore-edges a couple photos w/ very minor tears at lower corners slight soiling still VG exemplar. This intriguing photo album offers an excellent catalogue of several homes built by Eulalio Mondragon in and around Mexico City during the Jazz Age. Based out of his business address in the General Anaya Borough Mexican Federal District which was created in 1928 Mondragon displays here a number of modest Spanish-style bungalows with stucco brick decoration porches and elaborate iron fences & gates in front of the homes. A few have distinctive Art Deco elements reflected in the crenellations along the roof line as well as architectural features in the low walls in front of the homes with porches attached. One of the homes was a larger brick & stone house with large porch arched windows and even garage for an automobile seen dimly in the entrance below the house. One of the homes includes geometric patterns reminiscent of the Ennis House created by Frank Lloyd Wright to emulate a Mayan temple. This album offers an informative depiction of domestic architecture during the turbulent period right after the Mexican Revolution and at the time of the founding of the National Revolutionary Party in Mexico.
