ill., ril. «Tutte le donne di d'Annunzio - amate o meno - dovevano indossare le mise scelte da lui, dovevano essere raffinate come le dame che ritraeva nelle cronache mondane romane. Le donne, però, erano liberate dal tormento dei busti, delle stecche di balena, delle stringhe, degli stivaletti severi. Esibivano finalmente le gambe, indossando abiti corti e ondeggianti, mentre sulla spiaggia comparivano i primi costumi a mezza coscia. Il corpo femminile è esibito senza trucchi e imbottiture, ma non per ciò meno malizioso o sensuale. Per le sue "belle di notte" Gabriel nuntius sceglieva tessuti raffinati e leggerissimi, le rifiniture erano sempre più ricercate e il trucco - sceglieva anche quello - doveva accentuare il languore dello sguardo. Alcune di queste vesti sono ora esposte nel Museo d'Annunzio segreto al Vittoriale, altre sono ancora conservate nella Stanza delle Ospiti, l'ambiente che il Poeta creò per accogliere le poche donne cui era consentito fermarsi a dormire nella Prioria. In questo libro, Lorenzo Capellini, ha saputo liberarle: sia quelle donne, sia le loro vesti. Se spostare abiti e vestaglie dagli armadi e dalle vetrine è stato facile, difficile era dare loro vita. Non bastava farle indossare a una donna, o ragazza, bella. Lorenzo è riuscito - con la semplicità della sua arte e della sua tecnica, con la sensibilità del suo solo occhio e dei suoi sentimenti - a evitare il rischio della forzatura o, peggio, del ridicolo. Its hot mineral springs were used by the Romans, and remains of Roman baths have been found in the city.
