JEAN ROYERE : Décorateur à Paris.
Paperback, 175 pages, Texte en Francais, 310 x 235 mm, Tres belle exemplaire !, illustrations en couleur / n/b. ISBN 9782909283470. The French designer turned his playful creations into a serious business, winning admirers who have ranged from Middle Eastern royalty to Kanye West and Jennifer Aniston. Illustrated with works offered at Christie's In 1947, Jean Royère (1902-1981) designed a sofa that embodied both his own emerging style and the joie de vivre of the post-war period ? an elegantly rounded beast in soft white velvet that came to be known as the Ours polaire (Polar Bear). The sofa and the archairs that went with it have since become collector's items: in 2017, a cream sofa sold at Christie's for 439,500; a pair of pale-gold armchairs (below) for almost double that.

JOBE BROCK; SULLIVAN GARY R. & O'BRIEN JACK
Harbor & Home: Furniture Of Southeastern Massachusetts 1710-1850
University Press of New England Hanover: 2009. Hardcover with dustjacket. Brand new book. 321 illus. 284 color 9" x 12". Presented for the first time the richly illustrated findings of the Southeastern Massachusetts Furniture project at Winterthur Museum. Through furniture this exhibition catalogue will explore the cultural identity of a little-studied region of 18th and 19th century New England: southeastern Massachusetts an area that stretches from just south of Boston to Providence east to the tip of Cap Cod and includes the islands of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. The era between 1710 and 1850 was marked by enormous changes in the landscape population and economy of this area as well as in the activities of furniture craftsmen and the purchasing patterns of local residents. Three themes are paramount here: 1. Regionalism in the character of furniture made in the area and the forces that shaped that identity. 2. Fashion changing tastes and the growing affluence of local residents over time. 3. Shop practices and the evolving craft practices of furniture makers through the recreation of two shops the rural handcraft tradition of Samuel Wing of Sandwich in 1800 and the mechanized operation of a New Bedford or Fall River chair factory in 1850. The exhibition will include approximately 75 pieces of furniture from private and institutional collections tools and equipment from the Samuel Wing cabinet shop now owned by Sturbridge Village and selected household furnishings depicting interiors in southeastern Massachusetts during the 18th and 19th centuries.Winterthur Museum "Wallace Nutting lamented in 1928 that southeastern Massachusetts had been so picked over by dealers and collectors that it had become the "least likely of any region to yield old furniture." However this new study by Brock Jobe Gary R. Sullivan and Jack O'brien assisted by a cadre of other authors proves that Nutting was mistaken. Harbor & Home provides a rich contextual examination of the cabinetmaking and clockmaking crafts in this area from 1710 to 1850 linking the area's furniture to Boston and Newport while defining its own distinctive characteristics. It will surely become a standard text in the literature on regional styles in early American furniture."Gerald W.R. Ward The Katharine Lane Weems Senior Curator of Decorative Arts and Sculpture Art of the Americas Museum of Fine Arts Boston "Brock Jobe's Harbor & Home proves that understanding the physical context of regional history is critical to understanding its material culture. The book brings antique photographs ledger book analysis and other salty tales about seafaring commerce craftsmanship and connoisseurship to unfurling new knowledge about furniture-making in a region of New England that has escaped deep primary research until now. From acquisition to auction the early furniture found in Harbor & Home identifies the work of new shop traditions and refines the template for regional study of American craftsmanship by using many artifacts in private collections. As value added Gary R. Sullivan's writing on timekeeping south of Boston augments our overall understanding of clockmaking in Federal era Massachusetts."Philip Zea President Historic Deerfield Inc University Press of New England, Hanover: 2009 hardcover

houtenbekisting, softcover, 238 p, ills colour, 16 x 19 cm, pb, Dutch. ISBN 9789082361902. Self-taught Frisian furniture designer Luitzen Zandbergen creates a range of interior objects and lighting designs inspired by the art and graphics found on wooden fruit crates, and even uses material from the crates in his designs. The colourful illustrations are incorporated in things as diverse as room screens, boxes, drawers, cabinets, and wall panels. Published on the occasion of a retrospective exhibition of Zandbergen?s work, this book gives an overview of 40 years of idiosyncratic production and reuse through images, curious furnishings, and a profusion of small boxes. With contributions by Hans Masselink and others, the volume comes in its own wooden slipcase.

British Antique Furniture : Price Guide & Reasons for Values
Hardcover, 392 pages, English, 280 x 225 mm, cover not in good condition, however the book itself is, illustrations in colour and b/w, . ISBN 9781851490905. For the past thirty years this book has, in its various editions, outsold all others on British antique furniture simply because it is unique in explaining what to look for when assessing the value of individual pieces. In this, the fourth edition, additional colour plates have been added to illustrate the huge financial importance of patination and colour -- something which has never before been explained and illustrated but which has become increasingly important in recent years. This classic guide consists of some 1,200 photographs of furniture found in shops and auction rooms throughout the country with the author's down-to-earth comments on important features which affect individual prices. The reader will come to understand the rules and prejudices which apply while the eye will become aware of gradations of quality. He will come instinctively to assess the workmanship and how all this affects the final price tag. This is, above all, a reference book for the practising collector and dealer, a work from which the memory may be refreshed and points checked. Each item is clearly referenced. This enables the annual price revision list to be compiled with a ready cross-reference. The list is available in January/February each year on a private subscription basis and details are contained within the book. This new edition contains both Sterling and US Dollar prices.
