Extremis' outdoor furniture designs quickly grew into an international standard of excellence. Not only the design collection itself has been applauded and awarded many times (with several Henry van de Velde Awards, Interior Innovation Award, (IMM Koln 2005), Red Dot Award 2005, International Excellence Design Award 2007, ao.), the expertise of Extremis in the field of design management, general management and export was praised just as well. In 2007 the creative unit of Extremis continued under the name Dirk Wynants Design Works = (dw)?, to enable the company to take on external design tasks. Dirk Wynants is still managing director and main designer of Extremis, but is also working closely together with other internationally renowned designers.

Pendant sept decennies, Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999) a contribue a faconner le monde de ses inventions, laissant derriere elle un sillage d'images, d'objets, de lieux et d'edifices, autant de registres d'une oeuvre qui apparait desormais dans toute son ampleur. Ce premier volume de l'oeuvre complete offre une analyse detaillee de ses premieres annees de creation, tres fertiles, aussi bien dans le domaine du design que de l'architecture ou de la photographie. S'appuyant en grande partie sur les archives conservees par la famille de l'artiste dans son atelier parisien, il permet de faire la lumiere sur ses sources, son environnement, ses annees d'apprentissage a l'ecole de l'Union centrale des arts decoratifs, ainsi que sa rencontre et son association avec Pierre Jeanneret et Le Corbusier, en 1928, qui va donner naissance a des meubles emblematiques tels que la Chaise longue basculante (1928), et a ses premiers amenagements (la villa Savoye, la villa Church, la villa Martinez de Hoz). Il nous fait egalement decouvrir son engagement militant, qui l'amene a voyager a Moscou, puis a reflechir a une architecture vernaculaire au service du peuple, qui aboutira notamment, dans les annees 30, a la Maison au bord de l'eau (1934), a un centre de vacances (1935), ou encore a ses premieres architectures de montagne. Les annees 30 sont par ailleurs celles de la creation de l'UAM, dont elleest l'un des membres fondateurs aux cotes de Robert Mallet-Stevens, mais aussi de sa rupture ideologique avec Le Corbusier, qui va l'amener, a l'oree de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, a faire cavalier seul.

Beim Blattern dieses wohlgestalteten Bandes wird schnell eines deutlich: man mag den Namen vielleicht nicht gekannt haben - die Produkte aus Industriedesign und Grafik sind fast jedem schon einmal begegnet (Stichwort Melitta, Afri-Cola, Rosenthal etc.). Besonders interessant: das reichhaltige historische Fotomaterial, das uns quasi eine kleine Nebengeschichte des deutschen Industrie- und Mobeldesigns erzahlt!

The themes of the book are the main elements of modernism, such as the emergence and development of mass production, changes in consumer habits, improvements to the quality of life and emphasis in design on the problems of increased equality. Although modernism was introduced into Finland around the turn of the 1920s and 1930s, modern design did not become part of the lives of ordinary consumers until the 1950s, as the Secon Wold War halted the developments that had begun in the 1930s. Modernism is of topical interest. In 2009, the anniversary of the bauhaus School was celebrated in Germany. Founded by the architect Walter Gropius in Weimar in 1919, the Bauhaus has remained, despite its small scope and brief duration, a symbol of modernism and its most prominet torchbearer.
