Errata slip bound in 3/4 leather with brown marbled boards. Mounted black leather spine label small chip on lower corner of label with no loss of text and gilt decorated spine. Good light foxing on tissue guard light discoloration on end papers cover rubbed and worn spine a bit chipped outer hinges beginning to crack but still holding well; spine ends worn down. Text clean and bright -no foxing no spotting no wear; binding secure. Little is known about John Hawksworth other than that he began his work in London and that he was active 1819 - 48. First edition, 4to (290 x 210 mm), [6], 22pp., Dawson Turner's Copy, 120 engravings on 116 sheets (complete), engraved title as plate one, 4 sheets having of two engravings, some occasional browning and spotting to plates, finely bound in contemporary full green morocco, lightly faded, joints rubbed, boards and spine decorated in gilt and blind, five double-raised bands, all edges gilt, a very handsome volume. The catalogue is dedicated to the art collection of Antoine Poullain, French art collector. It includes 120 engravings after paintings by Old Masters, from the collection of Poullain, among them Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, Peter Paul Rubens, Anthony van Dyck, Claude Lorrain, Gerrit Dou and many others, accompanied by short biographies of the artists. The engravings were engraved by different artists under the direction of the French engraver Pierre Fran?ois Basan. The collection of Antoine Poullain, documented in this catalogue, was sold at auction in Paris after his death in 1780. Many masterpieces from his collection are now in prominent museum collections. Provenance: From the library of Dawson Turner sold as lot 692, at the auction of his library on 9th March 1853, signed a dated by him on front fly-leaf, along with three notations: the first relating to the auction of the collection in 1780; the next concerns a Rembrandt from the collection being re-sold in London in 1814; and the third noting that plate 61 is included on plate 20 "This requires to be observed, or the book may be supposed incomplete". Vintage photo with some spotting most apparent with two on bottom edge. ; Orange three ring binder containing: Silver City 2 pages with 6 photocopy newspaper clippings; 8 black paper backed poly sleeves with 32 photocopy news clippings. Dates of the 14 total 1899-1905 most 1883; subjects include cattle rustling Indian wars shootings etc. Newspapers: 5 copies of the Silver City Press 1960; 1 copy of the Silver City Enterprise 1978. BEN LILLY: One 6" x 4" vintage silver print standing portrait with B. Lilly written in pencil on back c. 1920- One envelope containing five 8.5 x 10" glossy photographs of Lilly. The envelope has written on top edge: Ben Lilly . All but one photo are reproductions of Lilly photos seen elsewhere. One is of a man Lilly with several hounds but younger and without the beard. The photos are numbered I-VI so III is missing. Collected by Bob Stepp a prominent bookseller businessman in Silver City mentioned in one of the newspapers as filling a vacancy on the Pioneer Foundation board. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; "Benjamin Vernon Lilly or Ben Lilly 1856 1936 nicknamed Ol' Lilly was a notorious big game hunter houndsman and mountain man of the late American Old West. He remains famous for hunting down large numbers of grizzly cougars and black bears. A mix between a transcendentalist spirit and an ardent Christian he is described as an unfathomable Southern wild character. He was a stern practitioner of simple living and outdoor freedom roamed and hunted from Louisiana to Arizona and from Idaho to as far south as Chihuahua and Durango Mexico and was a subject of American folktales. He died at eighty on December 17 1936 on a ranch in Pleasanton near Silver City New Mexico. " Wikipedia . unknown

Angas, Thomas Baines and Joseph Wolf, each a highly respected and important natural history artist.
