Summing up the Banner Year 1975 when the magazine hit its stride after the first two years of innovation. One of the earliest - and still one of the best - portfolios ever published by Playgirl in its history: Page after sexy page of male nudes. The models who all appeared in the original issues of Playgirl Magazine in 1975 represent individually and collectively some of the handsomest and sexiest men Playgirl Magazine ever discovered and photographed. Al Cavuoto John Gibson and Lou Zivkovich whose "Life Size Poster" must be detached and assembled piece-by-piece by the reader from the magazine are the standouts but among so many others. Their pages are all intact in this copy. It is a well-established fact that a significant number if not a majority of Playgirl's readers and collectors are men gay as well as by open admission straight who were looking to compare and size themselves up versus the models and in the hope of landing on PG's coveted Centerfold too. While the "physique" magazines of yore scored their fair share of good-looking and well-endowed models they remained esoteric and could not attract many of the otherwise willing specimens of American male beauty because the latter feared being branded as gay. That fear was effectively extinguished for good by Playgirl Magazine with its "For Women Only" branding - while being fully aware that men constitute a large unacknowledged audience. Whatever one's feelings about this strategy it worked brilliantly and hastened the acceptance of the male nude as no "physique" magazine - before AND after PG - ever could. Today Playgirl is seriously collected throughout the world as nostalgia for a more innocent happier time Before The Internet and for the incomparably beautiful men who graced its pages. Many of them will not be equalled much less surpassed. An absolute "must-have" title for Playgirl Magazine and male erotic photography collectors. This title is an erotic photography classic. It resisted the attempts of able mathematicians for over a century and when it was successfully proved in 1976 the ‘computer proof’ was controversial: it did not allow scrutiny in the conventional way. At the height of his influence in 1878 Arthur Cayley had drawn attention to the problem at a meeting of the London Mathematical Society and it was duly ‘announced’ in print. the paper offered. He made a short contribution himself and he encouraged the young A. B. Kempe to publish a paper on the subject. Though ultimately unsuccessful the work of Cayley and Kempe in the late 1870s brought valuable insights. Francis Galton is revealed as the ‘go-between’ in suggesting Cayley publish his observations in Proceedings of the Royal Geographical Society." In good conditon folded for postage. Signed ‘C. Day Lewis.’ With ‘personal’ at top left. He apologies for the late response to the letter and thanks her for ‘sending me the fascinating poems by your son. I am so busy on my official work here that my correspondence is getting more and more out of hand. I do not know of any book on poetry which would be of use to a child of his age: as long as he is writing it so originally himself I cannot think he needs anything more!’ JISC does not indicate that the youthful prodigy pursued a poetical path. Foxton; a word with a Mr. Kendrick about judging; reception of parcels for "the Owen Jones Competition"; 1918 measures taken because of "possible increase of risk from attack by hostile aircraft"; need for the RSA to take back some works deposited by them to make room in the basement for withdrawals from exhibition pencil note attached about the deposit; arrangements for Mr. Davenport with regard to the Owen Jones Competition; 1919 discussion of the Somers Clarke letter agreeing with him that "these vague competitions for indefinite objects have been apt to do more harm than good particualrly in connection with the industrial arts"; comment on the "obsession of the easel" and the fact that a student from the North of England might not want to come to London for a competition.
