MAY BILLY AND MEL BLANC
Mel Blanc’s Own Copy of the Ms. Music for “I Taut I Saw a Pudddy Tat.â€
Released to considerable success by Capitol Records in 1950 as “I Tawt I Taw a Puddy Tat.†This folio ms. consists of a title leaf and seventy-two pages of ms. music some on shared leaves arranged for various instruments; seventeen of these pages have Blanc’s identifying block printed name in ink at the top presumably by Blanc himself; the first leaf credits in an unidentified hand Blanc as the “Artist†and Billy May as the conductor and arranger. The musical notations are presumably in May’s hand. The title leaf is marked in large block letters probably by Blanc “Original/ I Taut I Saw A Puddy Tat/ Property of Mel Blanc.†In another hand possibly May’s there is a production list of the instruments involved. May was a prominent prolific arranger and composer but this jokey little song turned out to be his greatest hit. Excellent condition. unknown
