‎1788 und 1803, 33x21 cm 1 Doppelbl. u. 4 broschierte Bl. (o.U.), hs. in deutscher Kurrentschrift mit schwarzer Tinte, kalligraphische Titelzeile u. Papiersiegel in der Broschüre, letztes (leeres) Bl. mit fehlender Ecke, sonst guter Zustand.‎

‎Zwei Originaldokumente aus dem Wiesbaden des späten 18. Jh., welche die Arbeit und Karriere eines Mannes betreffen, der in den Dokumenten einfach als ,Controlleur Köpp’ bezeichnet wird. 1) 2. April 1788: Dekret oder Petition des Kellerei-Controlleurs Koepp zu Wiesbaden zur Bewilligung einer Pferde-Fourage für die Besorgungen des herrschaftlichen Weinkellers zu Idstein statt der bisher bezogenen Diäten und Pferdemieten. / 2) 14. April 1803: Im Auftrage Karl Wilhelms, des Fürsten zu Nassau, Grafen zu Saarbrücken und Saarwerden etc...,Herr zu Wiesbaden, Wir, Hofkammerpräsident, geheimer Direktor und Hofkammerrat, nach dem Ableben des Rentmeisters Lade beschliessen die ,Frohndschreiberey’ und Marktbeamtenstelle des Oberamts dem Controlleur Köpp zu geben. Erlassen in Wiesbaden. Diese Beförderung auf gleich 2 Posten enthält auch eine Aufstellung der Pflichten und Aufgaben eines Fronschreibers, bzw. eines Marktbeamten. Der Fürst starb noch im selben Jahr 1803.‎

‎The first edition was published 1707 and it was regularly printed throughout the eighteenth century. All issues are scarce. Dougharty (1677-1755) was an Irisman who ran a writing and arithmetic school in Worchester (Macclesfield No 657 (1707)).‎

‎First appearance of these famous papers initiating Pasteur's renowned studies on wine and its ""diseases"", being his most importent papers on wine.""In December 1863 Pasteur published the first of the papers that culminated in his Études sur le vin (1866"" 2nd ed. 1873). In that first paper, dealing with the role of atmospheric oxygen in vinification, he sought to establish that the aging of wine resulted from the slow penetration of atmospheric oxygen through the porous wook casks into which new wine was decanted. By virtue of this slow oxidation, he claimed, new wine grows less harsh and acid to the taste as it becomes clearer and lighter from the to the taste as it becomes clearer and lighter from the precipation of dark coloring matters. In his second paper (January 1864) Pasteur examined the ""alterations"" or ""diseases of wine, especially wine from the Jura, his native department. Reviewing the familiar disease of ""turned,"" ""acid"" ""ropy"" or ""oily "" wine, he associated each with a microscopic organism. He summarized the results of his first two papers by nothing that ""wine, which is proudced by a cellular vegetation acting as a ferment [namely, yeast], is altered only by the influence of other vegetations of the same order"" and once removed from the effects of their parasitism, it is made or matured principally by the action of atmospheric oxygen penetrating slowly through the staves of the casks.""(DSB).‎

‎1792. 59 leaves enumerating the names of grapes cereal crops and oils and their prices for nearly two centuries. Small folio 273 x 178 mm. 18th-cent. vellum over boards tail of spine defective two of four ties lacking. Burgundy: 1622-1792.<br/> <br/> A fascinating and rare survival which details the precipitous rise in the prices of Burgundian wine and the emergence of a hierarchy among regions and vintages over a 170-year period. This document consisting of three gatherings 28; 28; 3 leaves bound together and written in several legible hands provides a wealth of information on grain harvests in the region which varied greatly from year to year and indicates years with disastrous harvests. The present manuscript constitutes a unique history of agriculture in Burgundy especially pertaining to the evolving market for Côte de Nuits wine.<br/> <br/> “Burgundy had no experience like the boomtime of 18th-century Bordeaux. No new wines were invented no new districts planted. The Bordeaux picture is all expansion and creation; the Burgundy one of evolving tastes and techniques of new market forces and overall of slowly progressing definition: a more precise notion of the character style and value of the wine from each corner of the Côte…In the Côte de Nuits the notion of the ‘cru’ was further advanced…The vineyards were generally less overcrowded and by now planted with cuttings rather than layers; hence more deep-rooting. Increasingly in the 18th century owners of the most prestigious crus selected their best grapes to make separate cuvées the best vat being called the ‘tête de cuvée’.â€â€“Hugh Johnson Vintage 1989 pp. 267 & 272.<br/> <br/> The motivation for compiling this record-book may have come from the introduction of a law in 1622 that outlawed the sale of Lyonnais and Beaujolais wines as Burgundian. The records of the first three decades consist mostly of grains and oil from the region but in the early 1670s wines begin to predominate and the lists for each year become increasingly long. It is very likely that at this point landowners would have shifted to using any arable land for vastly more lucrative grapes. By the 1690s dozens of grape varietals are noted from communes such as Auvilliers Les Cailles Chambolle Chorey Comblanchien Corgoloin Côte de Beaune Gilly Magny Saint Georges Saint Julien Les Cailles Vaucrains Pouilly Prissey etc. Prices for wine rose enormously from the 1690s and experienced peaks in 1701 1733 and 1770. Wines are increasingly categorized by the mid-18th century according to vineyard and in some cases cru.<br/> <br/> The name “de Bays†appears several times in the manuscript and the signature of “de Bays†is found at the end of the year 1771.<br/> <br/> Very few comparable documents survive and the present manuscript provides a vast amount of data on the prices for wine grapes and grains in the 17th and 18th centuries. ‎A Huge and Fastidious Collection of Plant Specimens from This Renown Wine Region.‎

‎Marseille: N.p. ca. 1880. A large gathering of plant specimens from the wine growing regions of southwest France. Each specimen is mounted via paper holders to bifoliums measuring 12 1/2 x 20 inches and each specimen within a genus folder containing differing amounts of specimens. Each specimen is named in French on the front of the bifolium and and in much more detail in a small square on the bottom right of the page bearing the specimen .E.g.: Scrofularinees for Scrophulariaceae; In this folder are 3 specimens of species of this genus—— Linaria Cymbalaria; Linaria arvensis; scrofularinee aqua. All data is in French and in manuscript and gives the French translated from the Latin name of the plant the flowering season and the type of habitat and flower color if applicable. There are 15 genus folder bearing 76 actual species specimens. The specimens are on the main very large. All housed in a custom wooden slipcase with extensive brass fittings. Box measures 24 1/2 x 15 1/2 x 6 inches. No specimens broken or missing. Stock paper and chemise by Moullot Fils Ainé Marseilles. A wonderful assemblage.South West France or in French Sud-Ouest is a wine region in France covering several wine-producing areas situated respectively inland from and south of the wine region of Bordeaux. These areas which have a total of 16000 hectares 40000 acres of vineyards consist of several discontinuous wine "islands" throughout the Aquitaine region where Bordeaux region itself is situated and more or less to the west of the Midi-Pyrénées region. Thus South West France covers both the upstream areas around the rivers Dordogne and Garonne which also flow through Bordeaux where they combine to form the Gironde estuary and their tributaries as well as the wine-producing areas of Gascony including Bearn and the Northern Basque Country. However only areas closer to the Atlantic than to the Mediterranean are included in the region with the city of Toulouse being situated roughly halfway between the South West wine region and the Languedoc-Roussillon wine region on the Mediterranean. The brandy-producing region Armagnac is situated within Gascony and the wine region of South West France and some of its grapes are used to make Vin de Pays under the designation Vin de Pays de Côtes de Gascogne or mixed with Armagnac to produce the Mistelle Floc de Gascogne.South West France is a rather heterogeneous region in terms of its wines and how they are marketed. It is rare to see wines being sold as Vins du Sud-Ouest. Rather the smaller areas and individual appellations market their wines under their own smaller umbrella in contrast with common practice in e.g. the Bordeaux region. N.p. unknown‎
