One of 65 copies signed by both Braque and his friend the author Paulhan and printed on velin du Marais this no. 39. A further 25 copies were printed on velin d’Arches with an additional signed lithograph. 2 original lithographs designed by Braque especially for this edition being the three-colour lithograph on the wrappers and the two-colour lithograph on the first page of the text. 57 superb tipped-in plates one in colour which reproduce several of Braque’s paintings. Tall quarto in the original lithographed Braque wrappers housed in the original blue cloth and paper backed white chemise and blue slipcase the latter is rather worn but intact some wear with a tear on bottom left hand corner of wrappers very clean internally being largely an unopened copy. New York: Perls Gallery 1957-60. The Perls Gallery in New York was founded in 1937 by Klaus Gunther Perls 1912-2008 and his brother Franz R. Perls1910-1975 after having worked at their mother's Galerie Kate Perls in Paris. Following his marriage to Amelia Blumenthal of Philadelphia in 1940 Klaus and Amelia B. Perls jointly ran the gallery. They specialized in modern French painting while Franz established the Frank Perls Gallery in Beverly Hills He originally dealt in works by Maurice Utrillo Maurice de Vlaminck and Raoul Dufy that his mother sent from Paris until the Nazi occupation. When she was forced to flee France he began dealing in now little known contemporary American artists including Darrel Austin and in Mexican and South American art such as Mario Carreno. After the war Klaus again dealt in French art from the School of Paris Artists in the Perls' stable included Rouault Picasso L�ger Derain Dufy Matisse Modigliani Pascin Soutine and Vlaminck. Three black & white illus. 9 unnumbered pages. 8vo 210 x 135 mm. orig. gray printed wrappers a little sunned staple-bound. Paris: P. Rosenberg 1936. A scarce Braque exhibition catalogue of paintings made since 1931 featuring mostly still lifes along with two nudes. It lists 20 paintings three of which are illustrated. Rosenberg had lured Braque away from Daniel Henry Kahnweiler and his brother L�once in 1922. Braque's first solo exhibition at Paul Rosenberg's famed gallery on 21 rue la Bo�tie took place in 1924. The final page of this catalogue announces future exhibitions for Seurat Picasso Monet Matisse and Laurencin. Very good copy minor dampstaining to the first blank leaf. ❧ Oxford Art Online. unknown
