Ouvrage illustré de 4 gravures originales de Pablo Picasso. Discrètes restaurations en marge du second plat. Bel exemplaire. Bel envoi autographe signé de Georges Hugnet à son proche ami le libraire parisien et résistant Pierre Berger : ""A mon ami Pierre Berger en souvenir de tout ce qui nous lie par la pluie et le beau temps. De tout coeur. Georges Hugnet. 1953."" Cet émouvant hommage à leur combat commun dans la résistance ne pouvait être que tardif puisqu'à la parution de cet ouvrage Pierre Berger était emprisonné au camp de Buchenwald où il avait été déporté en 1941 après avoir été dénoncé par son associé à la Gestapo. Ami de Desnos Picasso Dali Tanguy Hugnet Salmon Max Jacob Pierre Berger était également écrivain et journaliste. Après la guerre il contribua à la collection ""Poètes d'aujourd'hui"" éditée par Pierre Seghers. Il est notamment l'auteur des portraits-souvenirs de poètes résistants comme René Char et Robert Desnos. Publié initialement en 1940 avec un frontispice de Joan Miro ""Non-vouloir"" fut le premier poème de résistance paru au grand jour et signé de son auteur sans être soumis à la censure. Composé entre mars et juin 1940 le poème de Hugnet se veut un manifeste poétique du refus de la défaite et de l'occupation qui fait écho au célèbre appel du 18 juin du Général De Gaulle . Résistant de la première heure Hugnet intègre le groupe ""La Main à plume"" qui imprime de nombreux tracts clandestins. Il utilise son atelier de reliure pour réaliser de faux laissez-passer et sous le pseudonyme de ""Malo le Bleu"" participe notamment à L'honneur des poètes receuil de poésies combattantes publié clandestinement en 1943 par les célèbres Editions de Minuit. Au plus fort de l'occupation Georges Hugnet réitère l'affront à l'occupant avec cette édition illustrée de gravures originales de l'auteur de Guernica chef de file de l'art dégénéré ostensiblement resté à Paris. Tous deux narguent effrontément l'autorité nazie par ce violent pamphlet poétique et artistique : ""Le wagon inlassable emporte la femme évanouie Nue parmi ses bagages outragés Et la lumière et la fourrure Courent dans un air de tous les jours. Indifférent comme ce ciel mobile au fond du puits Indifférent comme ce campement qui fume sous l'orage Plus indifférent que jamais L'homme attend ce qu'il doit découvrir.
