Roma, Lorenzo e Tommaso Pagliarini, 1726. Grande incisione (mm. 220 x 320) in rame di Baldassare Gabbuggiani su disegno di Gio. Domenico Campiglia, colorata d'epoca. Alcuni strappetti marginali, restaurati. Ritrae il padre scolopio Alessandro Politi (1679-1752): educato presso i Gesuiti, divenne chierico regolare delle Scuole Pie a Firenze; filologo, teologo e umanista si dedicò allo studio del greco, insegnando all'Università di Pisa dal 1733. Fu anche collezionista di testi classici e bibliofilo, acquisendo volumi rari (poi donati al Collegio del suo Ordine) e corrispondendo con eruditi inglesi a Firenze. La sua opera più nota è una traduzione latina dal greco di Eustazio dei Commentari ad Omero: opera stampata in 3 tomi (1730-35) con dediche al granduca Gian Gastone de' Medici, papa Clemente XII e Luigi XV di Francia.

Da lui ha inizio il vero studio del greco in Italia. Lascio' una grammatica greca, una traduzione della Repubblica di Platone, epistole.

Revet. Bound in modern polished half calf pale cream boards gilt lettering and rules to spine new cream endpapers. The corners of the pages are very slightly creased.
