So besuchte er Nordamerika den Nahen Osten und zahlreiche europäische Länder. - Mit Ansichten v. Bell Horace; Bartlett Lanier editor
On the Old West Coast Being Further Reminiscences of a Ranger Major Horace Bell
New York: William Morrow 1930. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. Limited edition signed by Bartlett on the limitation page which page states that there were 210 copies for sale; this copy is numbered 217 so perhaps was a hors commerce copy. There is also a previous owner's gift inscription on the facing page. Cloth spine with red paper label decorative paper boards. Corners lightly rubbed spine label dust soiled otherwise a very nice copy. In the scarce original slipcase which has several old tape repairs. According to Adams Six Guns 188 the content of this book is "drawn from the wealth of unpublished material that Major Bell left at his death containing much information that he did not wish to make public while his subjects were alive." It contains material on Joaquin Murrieta and other notorious outlaws. William Morrow hardcover books

Benjamin Champney, George Bond and John Bartlett
A Map of the White Mountains of New Hampshire 1853. First Edition in Boards with 5 Views after Benjamin Champney on Seperate sheet. Map by George Bond. Example 'B' with Map Sheet Printed Both Sides
No Binding. Near Fine. Publisher: John Bartlett. Large light brown cloth boards measuring 8" x 5" Gilt and blindstamped. The edges are uniformly sunned with light wear to the ends remarkably nice condition for these covers which are commonly found disbound and/or in rough shape. Map and Illustration sheet measures 17" x 15". Map has a professionally mended tear along the central crease. Another short tear at the tip-in junction likely from a careless opening of the map. Otherwise map is near fine with none of the usual foxing and very little edge wear. Etchings by Wallis from Champney drawings are also in near fine condition. A favorite of mine the Franconia Lake scene is quite lovely in its simplistic beauty with a small dingy and pair of sightseers. The Bond map with the Champney views is to be considered a cornerstone to any collection of such material. As according to Bent The five lithographed views after Champney are printed on the reverse of the map. Map sheet is printed on thicker paper than is noted on the more common printing included in B. Willey's History 1856. In the past 30 years or so as a book dealer here in the White Mountains I have seen perhaps 8 examples of the larger two formats this variation most of the time. References; Apt Maps of the White Mountains of New Hampshire; Bent's Bibliography of the White Mountains; Cobb Maps of New Hampshire to 1900; Historical New Hampshire Vol. 51 No's 3&4 1996 Beauty Caught and Kept: Benjamin Champney in the White Mountains. Many photos available on request. Incidently pun intended the title 'Incidents in White Mountain History'by Willey Rev. Ben. also a cornerstone classic used the 5 Champney lithoss and the Bond map for illustrative purposes though the Map is printed on much lighter paper as previously mentioned. It is likely that Willey Champney and Bond were all acquaintances if not friends even though the good Reverend Willey was the senior by about a quarter century.

unknown
