Two vintage borderless black-and-white reference still photographs from the 1972 French film "La course du lievre a travers les champs" release in the US as "And Hope to Die." Featured is a rare still of director Clement brandishing a rifle and a still of actor Trintignant contemplating the true value of a ten-dollar bill. Loosely based on David Goodis' 1954 seminal hardboiled novel "Black Friday" a paperback original. A French fugitive heads for Canada and ends up joining a gang of criminals in the midst of kidnapping the mentally-challenged daughter of a rival crimelord. The plan goes accordingly until the girl accidentally dies. Shot on location in Quebec Canada and Hauts-de-Seine France. Both stills 7 x 9.25 inches borderless as issued. In an attempt to ride on the success of "The Fly" which debuted a few months earlier in 1958 the film's working title "The Spider" replaced "Earth vs. the Spider" on most of its promotional materials. A group of teenagers including Beau Bridges accidentally stumbles upon a way to grow themselves to unusually large size and terrorizes a small town until a young Ron Howard the nerdy "Genius" character figures out how to turn them small again. Set in the small fictional town of Hainesville California shot on location in Los Angeles. Frank Sinatra's fourth collaboration with director Gordon Douglas and a box office success. One of the first mainstream Hollywood films to include explicit references and depictions of the lives of gay men including the homophobia and indifference to violence against them they faced from police departments. <br/><br/>In 1979 Thorp wrote a sequel to The Detective entitled Nothing Lasts Forever which was adapted in 1988 as Die Hard. Due to his having starred in the earlier film Sinatra had contractual rights to star in the sequel.
