Kerry J. Robert Co Chairman and Goss Porter J. Co Chairman and the members of the National Commission for the Review of the
Report of the National Commission for the Review of the National Reconnaissance Office; The NRO at the Crossroads
Washington DC: U.S. Government Printing Office 2000. Presumed First Edition First printing. Wraps. Good. x 185 1 pages. Illustrations some with color. Appendices: List of Recommendations List of Witnesses List of Witnesses Front cover has a corner creased. Glossary of Acronyms. The National Reconnaissance Office NRO is a member of the United States Intelligence Community and an agency of the United States Department of Defense. NRO is considered along with the Central Intelligence Agency CIA National Security Agency NSA Defense Intelligence Agency DIA and National Geospatial- Intelligence Agency NGA to be one of the "big five" U.S. intelligence agencies. The NRO designs builds and operates the reconnaissance satellites and provides satellite intelligence to several government agencies particularly signals intelligence SIGINT and imagery intelligence IMINT and measurement and signature intelligence MASINT. The A 1996 bipartisan commission report described the NRO as having by far the largest budget of any intelligence agency and "virtually no federal workforce" accomplishing most of its work through "tens of thousands" of defense contractor personnel. In response to the issuance of this report the Director of Central Intelligence issued a DCI Statement on Report by National Commission for the NRO Review: Statement by DCI George J. Tenet on Report by National Commission for the Review of the National Reconnaissance Office November 15 2000. I want to thank the Commission for this important independent review of the National Reconnaissance Office. In particular I want to thank the Co-Chairmen - Senator Bob Kerrey and Representative Porter Goss - for their dedication to this review as well as their outstanding contributions to the nation's security. The Commission's recommendations reflect the importance of the National Reconnaissance Office to US security over the past 40 years. I am encouraged that the Commission finds that the NRO "…must remain a strong separate activity with a focus on innovation within the Intelligence Community and the Department of Defense." I will ensure that the Commission's recommendations are taken fully into consideration. U.S. Government Printing Office paperback

(Jean-Yves Lacroix, Catalogue Revues, janvier 2019, p.4).
