‎JUVENILE PERIODICALS ANARCHISM LABADIE Laurance ed‎

‎The Whippo-Wil. Vol. I no. 3‎

‎Detroit: Labadie Shop 1912. Single issue original unbound condition. 12mo 18cm; 4pp bifolium. On newsprint. Mildly tanned but not fragile; light soil; horizontal fold with a few tiny chips to margins; Very Good. Third issue of four of this extremely ephemeral privately-circulated "newspaper" produced by a 13-year-old Laurance Labadie on the premises of his father's Jo Labadie anarchist print shop in Detroit. <br/><br/>Labadie 1898-1975 would go on to become an influential if somewhat eccentric anarchist philosopher closely affiliated with Ralph Borsodi's utopian School of Living movement. Labadie's father was Joseph "Jo" Labadie 1850-1933 a leading apostle of anarchism in the Progressive era and prolific collector printer and publisher of anarchist tracts. The famed Labadie Collection of radical literature at the University of MIchigan is named for him. Of the current publication OCLC notes only two physical locations University of MIchigan and the State Library of Michigan; not noted in commerce and never previously encountered by us. According to UM cataloguing data publication ceased after the fourth issue. Labadie Shop unknown books‎

Important journal lasting 10 issues which written & published by Jewish DPs themselves to document crimes and survival in the Holocaust. Hagit Lavsky notes in the Encyclopedia of the Holocaust (Gutman, ed., 1990, p. 383) that, "Commemoration and documentation projects [by Jewish DPs] included the work of the Tsentraler Historisher Komisiye (Central Historical Commission), established in December 1945 by the Central Committee in Munich, to assist in bringing Nazi criminals to trial. ‎FUN LETSTEN CHURBN [FUN LETZTEN KHURBAN / KHURBN / CHURBAN] : TSAYTSHRIFT FÜR GESHIKHTE FUN YIDISHN LEBN BETN NATSI-REZSHIM. FROM THE LAST EXTERMINATION: JOURNAL FOR THE HISTORY OF THE JEWISH PEOPLE DURING THE NAZI REGIME. Nr. 5. May 1947.‎

‎Small 8vo; First Edition. Paper Wrappers, small 8vo, 106 pages. Includes 11 photos with captions in English & Yiddish. One of 8000 issued. In Yiddish with English Cover, table of contents, & photo captions. Important journal lasting 10 issues which written & published by Jewish DPs themselves to document crimes and survival in the Holocaust. The publisher's decision to include the English table of contents, probably in part to insure the journal's use in future war crimes trials, makes these first hand accounts especially user-friendly today, almost 60 years later. Robinson & Friedman #1247: "The Historical Commission [was] established in 1945 under the auspices of the Central Committee of Liberated Jews in the U. S. Zone. [It] Ceased operations early in 1949. Details of the activities of the Munich center can be found in No. 1247 [Fun Letsten Churbn]..." Hagit Lavsky notes in the Encyclopedia of the Holocaust (Gutman, ed., 1990, p. 383) that, "Commemoration and documentation projects [by Jewish DPs] included the work of the Tsentraler Historisher Komisiye (Central Historical Commission), established in December 1945 by the Central Committee in Munich, to assist in bringing Nazi criminals to trial. A network of regional committees was set up under the commission's auspices whose task it was to take evidence and collect documentary material, including material on DPs. In August 1946, the commission published the first issue of the monthly FUN LETZTEN HURBAN." Published under DP-Publications License US-E-3 OMGB, Information Control Division. Articles include: The con-camp [i.e. concentration camp] prisoners march to Tirol, by I.K. [Israel Kaplan?]; March from Kaufering-camps, by I[sreal]. Kaplan; From Schwabhausen to Dachau, by Dr. L. ‎[HAMIDIAN ERA PERIODICAL BY ARMENIAN BOOKSELLER] Mekteb: Her on bes günde Persembe günleri nesrolunur edebî, hikemî ve fennî risâle. [i.e. School: Literary, scientific treatise published on Thursdays every fifteen days]. Edited by Ismail Hakki [Eldem] and Ebülfeyyaz Hakki.‎

‎Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Contemporary half leather and quarter bdg. Two volumes. Five raised bands to the spine. Gilt lettering on compartments. Wear on the spine of the first volume. A label on the second's spine. Occasionally slight stains on thin papers. Overall very good volumes. 4to. (27 x 19 cm). In Ottoman script (Old Turkish with Arabic letters). Extremely rare 29 issues of the second and third years in two volumes of this rare Hamidian period (1876-1908) Ottoman periodical, devoted to the circulation of contemporary prose and poetry, as well as criticism, Mekteb was edited by Ismail Hakki from 1891 to 1894, followed by Ebülfeyyaz Hakki from 1894-1898. The magazine was a particularly important voice for the Servet-i Fünun [i.e. The Wealth of the Sciences] generation of writers. Weekly; 26 Temmuz 1307 [8 August 1891] - 30 Kanun-i Sanî 1313 [12 February 1898]. This periodical was published by Ottoman-Armenian bookseller, publisher, and printer Karabet Kesisyan Efendi (Garabed Keshishian, 1850-1911), who is a prominent Armenian figure in the history of Ottoman printing. As a prolific and enterprising figure, he was one of the most famous printers of the Hamidian Era (1876-1909). His contributions in this field reflect the sociocultural changes that occurred gradually in the Ottoman Empire in the nineteenth century. His printing house published mostly Turkish language textbooks and became the sole provider for the Turkish military and civil schools from 1889 until the beginning of the twentieth century.
