Indios espa�oles y mestizos en zonas de frontera siglos XVII-XX

Los coordinadores de este libro colectivo compartimos el inter�s de reconocer a los grupos ind�genas la importancia que han tenido en la historia de nuestras sociedades as� como la preocupaci�n por recuperar la historia de territorios considerados perif�ricos a los grandes centros de poder. De ah� que en este trabajo se ofrezcan resultados de investigaciones que hacen hincapi� en las relaciones entre sociedades ind�genas y no ind�genas que se desarrollaron en zonas de frontera como el septentri�n novohispano y mexicano; adem�s se incluye un estudio referido a la frontera bonaerense de Argentina con la intenci�n de mostrar las similitudes entre espacios lejanos pero que comparten la caracter�stica de ser fronterizos. La relevancia de estos trabajos reside en que aborden temas poco atendidos en la historiograf�a mexicana como la permanencia de grupos ind�genas que rechazaban violentamente el dominio espa�ol o mexicano; la existencia de territorios sin conquistar que motivaba pol�ticas de poblamiento; el sostenimiento de pr�cticas coercitivas para obtener fuerza de trabajo; las relaciones inter�tnicas y la configuraci�n de sociedades en las que la conflictividad era un estado cotidiano. Los conflictos entre la sociedad ind�gena y no ind�gena es el tema predominante de este libro y no es casual dado que la imposici�n del dominio espa�ol fue lenta y precaria lo que posibilit� la resistencia ind�gena. Uno de los espacios f�sicos donde la historiograf�a ha documentado para un largo periodo de tiempo situaciones de violencia es la frontera septentrional novohispana o frontera norte de M�xico. En este espacio como en otros la violencia se produce aunque no haya resistencia ante imposiciones da�os o amenazas; se presenta tanto en el �mbito p�blico -ejercida por el Estado o grupos organizados: delincuenciales �tnicos pol�ticos- como en el privado -realizada por individuos en el seno familiar o comunitario. El inter�s de los trabajos aqu� incluidos se centra en la violencia inter�tnica; en aquella que se ejerce considerando las diferencias culturales e identitarias de los grupos sociales. En este volumen puede observarse c�mo la violencia afecta al conjunto de la sociedad novohispana y mexicana en diferentes �mbitos aunque la de car�cter p�blico expresada en rebeliones o enfrentamientos b�licos ha sido particularmente importante en la frontera norte.
