Feder in Schwarz, mit reicher Deckweißhöhung, auf braunem festem Papier, rechts unten Nachlaßstempel (nicht bei Lugt). 39,7:46,6 cm. - Mehrere kleinere Einrissen in den Rändern sorgfältig restauriert. Das alttestamentarische Motiv der Auffindung des Mosesknaben gehört zu den Wandmalereien, die Raffael für die Loggien im Vatikan ausgeführt hat. Sie wurden von zahlreichen Künstlern durch die Jahrhunderte kopiert.‎

‎Ersten Zeichenunterricht erhielt Harveng bei Eugen F.E. Peipers (1805-1885). 1848-18554 war er Schüler des Städelschen Kunstinstituts, zuerst unter F.M. Hessemer (1800-1860), dann unter J. Becker (1810-1872) und E.J. von Steinle (1810-1886). An der Karlsruher Akademie bildete er sich 1854-1859 unter J.W. Schirmer (1807-1863). 1862 ließ er sich in Düsseldorf nieder, später lebte er abwechselnd in Meran und Norditalien. Studienreisen unternahm er in den Schwarzwald, die Schweizer und Tiroler Alpen und nach Südfrankreich. Die vorliegende, im Stil der Nazarener ausgeführte, und sehr sichere Zeichnung, ist mit an Sicherheit grenzender Wahrscheinlichkeit währender der Studienzeit am Städel unter Steinle entstanden.‎

‎Summary How did medieval authors publish their works in the age before print? This study seeks to achieve new insights into the publishing strategies of medieval authors by focusing on Nicholas Trevet, an English Dominican friar and Oxford master. Shortly after 1317, Trevet was commissioned by his provincial prior to write a literal commentary on the Psalter. He chose as his reference version the less commonly used Latin translation by Jerome from the Hebrew, and delivered his work before 1321/22. The first book-length examination of Trevet's commentary, this detailed study traces the ways in which the work was circulated by the author and his proxies. Through a combined analysis of codicological, textual, and historical features of the nine extant fourteenth-century manuscripts, this study identifies contemporary efforts to make Trevet's work available to readers within and without the Dominican Order, in England and on the Continent.
