Music and libretto by Abraham Wolf Binder Judas Maccabeus An Oratorio in Two Parts. Preface to Third Edition: When this oratorio was first performed by a group of young people at the Y. M. H. A. In 1917 music had just begin to play a part in Jewish education in this country. Translated from the German by Avraham Kohen. Translation of Die Nationalitatenfrage und die Sozialdemokratie. A translation of the Austrian Socialist Otto Bauer's first book The Nationalities Question and Social Democracy first published 1907 an extremely influential work on the position of national minorities and the necessity for cultural-national autonomy; written specifically for the conditions of the national minorities and the need for socialism in the Austro-Hungarian empire this work immediately impacted the debates in the Russian and Polish socialist milieu and especially in the General Jewish Labor Bund and the socialist zionist milieu rather the debates with the Bund and socialist zionist milieu created many of the major theoretical distinctions which Bauer drew upon . Lenin extensively criticized this work and Stalin's work on the National Question is essentially a polemic with all the major ideas put forth in Baeur's text; the debates would immensely impact the conceptions of language autonomy and the various ethnically based republics of the soviet union. Compact tabloid format internally with broadsheet printed covers. Title translates as The Curse and Inescapable Destiny of the Jews. Written by Kurt Reiss under the pseudonym Abraham Cohen. This Antisemitic millenarian polemic situates itself alongside the numerous Antisemitic conspiracy theories clinging to the fringes of early Nazi propaganda a kind of millenialist Nazi-Zionism that calls for the Jews to be returned to Palestine to bring about the second coming of Jesus. In this piece Reiss celebrates Hitler as the latest confirmation that the Jews are the chosen people and sees Hitler as a guide and shepherd that will prevent the assimilation of the Jewish people and help bring them to Palestine to facilitate the final salvation. Kurt Reiss left school at the age of 15 and developed an interest in religion. He believed that the Jews should recognize Jesus Christ as their Messiah. He also attempted to secure patents for mechanical inventions. Kurt convinced the family to emigrate to Canada. ‎Nazi Millenialist Tract Cohen Abraham Kurt Reiss‎

‎FLUCH UND UNENTRINNBARES GESCHICK DER JUDEN‎

‎Saaz C. S. R. Czech Republic Kurt Reiss. 1935. Paperback. Holo9 HG zionism1 . Original printed wrappers. 4to. 11 pages. 30cm. In German. According to a family member Kurt suffered from mental illness. He was unable to work and spent his days writing notes about his daily activities and his religious ideas. His sister Lola always took care of him. Leo Baeck Institute OCLC lists 3 copies worldwide. Yeshiva Univ. National Libr. Of the Czech Republic Natl. Libr. ‎Meiri Menahem Ben Solomon 1249 1306; Abraham Schreiber‎

‎BET HA-BEHIRAH 'AL MASEKHET BAVA BATRA‎

‎New York; Hadar Linotyping. 1956. Hardcover. Rab9. ja . Original Cloth. 4to. XVI 733 pages. 26 cm. First edition. Added English title page: Beth ha-behirah on the tractate Baba bathra; composed by Rabbi Menahem ben Solomon Ha-Meiri XIII Century of Perpignan. Edited for the first time from a unique manuscript in the Palatine Library of Parma. With references and notes by Abraham Schreiber. Avraham Sofer-Schreiber 18971982 the son of the Erlau rabbi was a prolific author who although a scrupulously observant Jew did not fit smoothly into the familys Orthodox legacy. He served from 1948 to 1966 on the faculty of the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. From the 1930s on he dedicated himself to preparing critical editions of the writings of medieval Talmudists most prominently the voluminous commentary of Menahem 'ha-Meiri' of Perpignan. YIVO Encyclopedia; Sofer Family . Meiri's chief work is the gigantic Beit ha-Behirah on the Talmud in which he was engaged from 1287 to 1300. In it he summarizes the subject matter of the Talmud giving both the meaning and the halakhah derived from it. It follows the order of the Mishnah. The work covers the orders of Mo'ed Nashim and Nizikin and the tractates Berakhot Hallah Hullin Niddah Tamid Middot and Mikva'ot. Beit ha-Behirah has been republished almost in its entirety in recent years from a single complete manuscript Parma . Of particular interest is the introduction to his commentary on Avot in which he gives the chain of tradition of Torah study from its outset to his own time. It contains valuable material for the knowledge of the history of Torah study in Spain and Provence and was copied out in full and completed updated to his own time by Isaac Lattes in his Sha'arei Ziyyon ed. By S. Buber 1885 . In addition to Beit ha-Behirah Meiri wrote commentaries on the Talmud which were expository rather than halakhic in orientation. Although the manuscripts in this group of a number of tractates are still extant none has been published except for the commentary to Avot and the Beit ha-Behirah to the tractate Bezah which apparently belong to this group. Meiri was one of the few rabbis of his time to make extensive use of the Jerusalem Talmud in order to clarify the parallel discussions in the Babylonian Talmud and his works are therefore of added importance for research on the Jerusalem Talmud and its variant readings. Meiri's style contributes much to the lucidity of his presentation. His Hebrew is accurate precise and simple. In addition he succeeded in finding the golden mean between the generally contradictory aims of expository comprehensiveness and halakhic definitiveness. These features endeared the Beit ha-Behirah to scholars and its volumes are now repeatedly republished in spite of their great length. Subjects: Talmud. Bava batra Commentaries. OCLC lists 25 copies. Contains the bookstamp of Rabbi Stanley Platek. Cloth and outer edges lightly soiled internally clean and fresh. Good condition. RAB-55-49 .
