Oggi il mondo islamico sembra attraversato da una doppia tendenza: da un lato, nelle sue manifestazioni più estremistiche, è minacciato dalla patologia dell'islamismo e vive in costante opposizione con il nemico esterno per antonomasia, l'Occidente; dall'altro lato è lacerato da un confronto tutto interno sul diverso modo di interpretare gli insegnamenti del Profeta, come dimostrano le tante guerre intestine o la secolare divisione tra sciiti e sunniti. In questo libro appassionato e provocatorio, Hamed Abdel-Samad, storico di origini egiziane e figlio di un imam, afferma che questi opposti conflitti sono riconducibili a un'unica radice comune: il Corano. Qui risiedono infatti contemporaneamente messaggi di tolleranza e compassione, ma anche di estrema violenza, ed è a partire da questa contraddizione che Abdel-Samad commenta le sure più importanti e sottolinea le ragioni delle loro diverse ricezioni, auspicando una lettura del libro sacro dei musulmani simile a quella invalsa per la Bibbia, che in Occidente non è più considerata ormai immutabile parola di Dio ma opera umana permeata dello spirito dei tempi. In questa proposta risiede per l'autore l'unico modo possibile per dare sostanza al messaggio di amore che nel Corano è contenuto, e infondere così coraggio a quanti in esso si riconoscono.

Né à El Jadida au Maroc en 1938, Abdelkébir Khatibi a grandi dans un quartier populaire proche de la mer. Après le décès de son père, théologien et négociant, il est élève au collège Sidi Mohammed à Marrakech, entre 1950 et 1957. Il écrit ses premiers poèmes à douze ans, en arabe, ensuite en français qui devient sa langue d'écriture. Il fait ses études supérieures à la Sorbonne entre 1958 et 1964 et obtient son doctorat en sociologie en 1965. À son retour au Maroc, il mène une intense activité: chercheur, écrivain, enseignant, intellectuel engagé dans la politique à travers le Syndicat de l'enseignement supérieur dont il est l'un des fondateurs. Il publie en 1971 son premier ouvrage littéraire, La Mémoire tatouée, récit autobiographique qui inaugure une série de livres et d'études dans trois domaines: la littérature proprement dite, la recherche en science sociale, la critique d'art. En 1979, il arrête d'enseigner pour se consacrer à la recherche et à l'écriture. Il devient directeur de l'Institut universitaire de la recherche scientifique (Rabat) de 1994 à 2003. First edition of this extremely rare Turkish book, including Qirimi's first-hand account of the Prut War and Treaty (1711) and the defense of the city he participated in during the Russian invasion of Crimea (1735-36). The book was translated into Ottoman Turkish and edited by Turkish turcologist and soldier Necib Asim Yaziksiz, (1861-1935), with annotations, from the original work titled "Umdet al-Akhbar" [i.e. The principle of the news]. Abdulgaffar Qirimi was a Crimean scholar who lived in the Crimean Khanate in the first half of the 18th century and served in various government positions. Qirimi dedicated his work to Genghis Khan, the Golden Horde, and the Crimean Khanate. He reported many original details and, especially for the 18th century, his information is authentic and based on personal descriptions. The main part of the work is devoted to the Golden Horde (starting from Genghis Khan and his descendants), Crimean Khanate, Gerayids, and murzas. When Abdulgaffar Qirimi wrote a history of the descendants of Jochi Khan, he used in his book more than 20 historical works as sources. He stated the names of these works and indicated where he got this or that information. At the same time, he had access to the archives of the Crimean Khanate and used his family legends as well as popular traditions. Plenty of space in his work occupies his own observations as a participant in military campaigns and court life. His work concerning khans Berke, Tokhta, Uzbek, Tokhtamish, and Ulugh Muhammad reflects the popular version and is based on the oral historiography of the Tatars. The Russo-Ottoman War of 1710-1711, also known as the Prut River Campaign, was a brief military conflict between the Tsardom of Russia and the Ottoman Empire. The main battle took place during 18-22 July 1711 in the basin of the Pruth river near Stanile?ti (Stanilesti) after Tsar Peter I invaded Ottoman Moldavia, following the Ottoman Empire's declaration of war on Russia. The ill-prepared 38,000 Russians with 5,000 Moldavians, found themselves surrounded by 200,000 Turks under Grand Vizier Baltaci Mehmet Pasha. After three days of fighting and heavy casualties, the Tsar and his armies were allowed to withdraw after agreeing to abandon the fortress of Azov and its surrounding territory. Esrefoglu Abdullah Rûmî (-1469) was a Turkish poet and mystic of the early years of Ottoman Empire. His original name was Abdullah, but he was known as Esrefoglu Rumi. He was born in Iznik, and died there in 1469. His father Sayyid Ahmed came from Egypt and settled in Iznik. After a theological education, Rumi turned to Sufism under the guidance of Haji Bayram Veli. Later, he founded the Eshrefiye branch of the Kadiri dervishes. First written in 1448 (H. 852). Müzekki'n-nüfûs means 'Cleaning of the souls'. In the 15th century Anatolia, it met an important religious need and was one of the most read and referenced works among the people.
