Stato di conservazione: MOLTO BUONO, minimi ordinari segni d'uso e del tempo, tagli bruniti, occhietto (recante solo il titolo) parzialmente incollato alla sguardia ant., fioriture su alcune pagine (in particolare in corrispondenza delle due cartine), legatura solida, nessun segno o scritta all'interno. IV edizione. Edizione illustrata riveduta dall'autore, con note ed aggiunte, e illustrata da 152 incisioni e due carte geografiche. Con Prefazione alla prima edizione (1891) e Nota all'edizione illustrata (1895) dell'autore. "Quando questo libro uscì in luce la prima volta, pareva che d'Affrica [Africa] gli Italiani non avessero a sentir più discorrere per un pezzo. I male sperati silenzi furono rotti, come ognun sa, di recente, in un anno tre volte: ad Agordat prima, poi a Saganeiti, da ultimo a Coatit ed a Senafè; ed oggi siamo daccapo a discutere della nostra Colonia, delle diverse, e son molte, questioni che la concernano. Pur serbando, salvo poche e lieve emende, questa quarta edizione conforme nel testo alle altre che la precederono, mi è parso dunque non inutile lo aggiungere qua e là qualche nota, e tre appendici; l'una ad esporre, sebbene brevemente, quanto fu fatto sinora per la colonizzazione dell'Eritrea, le altre a descrivere la condizioni nella quale ci pone la recente presa di Cassala, e a dar qualche notizia de' Dervisci, del Sudan, del Mahdismo: tutte cose note per altre pubblicazioni, ma che forse i lettori non sgradiranno siano loro rammemorate". In 8, cm. 19 x 26 pp. 388, con un rtiratto in bianco e nero dell'autore all'antiporta, vignetta al titolo, 152 incisioni in bianco e nero prevelantemente a piena pagina nel testo. Mancano le due carte geografiche. Legatura in mezza tela foderata con acetato trasparente che ha lasciato tracce di nastro adesivo alla prima e ultima pagina bianca. Pagine lievemente ingiallite dal fattore tempo. In ottimo stato. Settima edizione (la 4a illustrata) riveduta e corretta dallo scrittore, deputato al parlamento e membro della Regia Commissione d'inchiesta per la Colonia Eritrea. Il libro e' un resoconto del viaggio eritreo compiuto nel 1891 dallo scrittore toscano al seguito della Regia Commissione.
