‎Erste Ausgabe. Bericht von Ebers erster großer Ägypten-Reise, bei der er 1869-1870 die Sinai-Halbinsel und die biblische Landschaft Gosen, die Ebers in dem Wüstengebiet zwischen Nil und Suezkanal lokalisiert, bereiste. Die Aus dem Wanderbuch betitelte Reisebeschreibung nimmt etwa drei Viertel des Buches ein. Das restliche Viertel (Aus der Bibliothek) besteht aus Erläuterungen oder eher Exkursen zu einzelnen Themen und Begriffen der Ägyptologie, biblischer Geschichtsschreibung, Orient- u. Islamkunde etc. Ebers ist das seltene Beispiel für einen deutschen Gelehrten, dem es verziehen wurde, ein Doppelleben zu führen. Er hielt eine ordentliche Professur für Ägyptologie in Leipzig und lieferte zahlreiche, bis heute gültige wissenschaftliche Beiträge zu seinem Fach (Auffindung und Edierung des Papyrus Ebers etc.). Gleichzeitig genoss er große Popularität als Autor beliebter populär-historischer bzw. populär-ethnologischer Romane. - Papier in den Rändern leicht gebräunt, Titel mit kl. Stempel.‎
