A rare work complete with a presentation inscription by the author Vladimir Filipov 1838 - 1903 a Lieutenant General who fought in the Russo-Turkish war 1877–78. Filipov's overview of the topography borders fortifications and road systems of these Caucasian regions is a first-hand source; in the 1860s prior to the publication of this account the author served as a Captain at the Caucasian General Headquarters. This copy contains 14 additional topographical and geological plans as well as plans of fortresses not usually included in either of the accounts. Rare: Worldcat locates no copies of "Obzor Tiflisskoy gubernii" in Europe and no copies of "Erivanskaya guberniya" at all; there are also no copies of "Erivanskaya guberniya" in the Russian State Library. Collection of Watercolours by a British tourist.
1881 - 1885. . Collection of 96 watercolours on paper sizes vary from 8 x 9 cm to 18 x 25 cm mounted on 20 cards 37 x 51 cm recto and verso all with ink captions providing a place and a date two watercolours signed "AH"; a few watercolours with tears mostly closed some staining especially to cardboards. Loose preserved in a recent box. These charming watercolour sketches were evidently made by a British traveller on a touristic trip as they capture natural and architectural beauties of the regions he or she visited. Considerable number of sketches 35 watercolours and 8 pencil drawings were made in Georgia and Crimea capturing castles churches and bird-eye views of Batumi Borjomi Alushta Balaklava Yalta and other places. Particularly interesting are views of Batumi where traces of the recent Ottoman rule are clearly visible such as views of a mosque and of the Turkish Governor's house. This Georgian city incorporated into the Russian Empire in 1878 was the last Black Sea port annexed by Russia during the Russian conquest of that area. The traveller evidently spent a considerable time in Corfu among the remaining views numerous from Corfu and Albania with a few from Montenegro England and the French Alps. 1881 - 1885. hardcover

Fine detailed pencil drawing of a mounted officer from the Caucasus Line Cossack Host. Apparently drawn in Milan it is strongly reminiscent of the military plates published in Vienna by Matthäus Trentsenskiy or the costume drawings of François Hippolyte Lalaisse. The Caucasus Linear Cossack Army was established in 1832 in the Northern Caucasus. Fine example of the first-hand account of the expedition to the peak of the mount Kazbek undertaken in November 1927 by a group of eleven mountaineers headed by Simon Dzhaparidze 1897-1929. The group started the ascending at the Gergeti glacier bypassed the cone of the peak from the west and reaching its saddle climbed to the top. Subsequently this path was named after Japaridze. Aslanishvili 1891-1957 the author of the account and a participant of the ascending was the Honoured Physician of the Georgian Republic a scientist and mountaineer.
