The dust jacket is now in its component parts missing the top quarter and bottom quarter of the back strip section and having large tears at the fold overs. There appears to be no fading of color. Very clean and unmarked with light scuffing of corners; tight sewn binding. The cover design endpapers and decorations on the title-page and on pages 75354 & 55 have been specially drawn by Leonard Huskinson. Others are reproductions by artists such as Richard Doyle L. Bennington and others and some are reproduced by permission of Country Life. In all there are six color plates and 23 black & white illustrations. Endpapers illustrated with golden-brown and black illustration of the estate. Frontispiece: Color plate of The First Marquess of Bath 1734-1796 in Parliamentary Robes Painting by Sir Thomas Lawrence. Leaves are in Fine condition--very clean completely unmarked no nicks no marginalia. A book recalling the days of elegance long gone in England with Longleat's history beginning with a priory which stood on the grounds in the 13th century. The present house was built in1567 with Sir John Thynne himself superintending the building. The reader will get a glimpse of what it was like living in a large country house upstairs and downstairs during days long gone and meet some of the people who lived in this historical and lovely estate. 31 pages. 7.5 x 5 inches.
