The Grenadier Guards Tercentenary Year 1656-1956: A Pictorial Record of the Historic Celebrations of 1956.
Crown quarto. Unpaginated. Colour frontispiece. Illustrations. Hardcover, bound in the original publisher's full cloth, gilt lettering. In a very good condition. ~ First edition. Rare presentation copy with a most curious dedication, very neatly calligraphed on first free endpaper: "Presented to General Obert Kurt Student with the compliments of the Tunbridge Wells Branch of the Grenadier Guards Comrades Association, 20th May 1961". General Kurt Student (1980-1978) had a distinguished military career in World War Two. Kurt Student was a distinguished Nazi officer who played a key role in the development of the Luftwaffe. He was involved in the attack on Western Europe in 1940, the planning for Operation Sealion, and in the largest German airborne attack in the war, the attack on Crete. Kurt Student was put on trial in May 1946 for war crimes committed in Greece and Crete. He died in 1978. The reason for the compliments of the Grenadier Guards remains a mystery.
