Light browning and faint dampspotting to text annotations to title page and margins of several leaves in an early hand. $650. Only edition. This book was the first digest of the London's laws and guide to its courts after the revisions of the city laws from 1647 and 1658. A useful work that gathered a great deal of disparate information it is a valuable resource today for students of seventeenth-century London and its legal system. Probably written by a practitioner the annotations are corrections glosses and amplifications of points in the text along with marks and underlining. Includes a history of the Civil Service Rifle Volunteers; then 1st, 2nd and 3rd Battalions Civil Service Rifles during WWI. In 1921 the 1/15th was reconstituted as 15th Battalion London Regiment (POW Own Civil Service Rifles); in 1923 15th Battalion was amalgamated with 16th Battalion. Scarce in this condition. The letter is headed with Sayers’ Totnes address. He begins by explaining that the Sphere’s ‘Children’s Supplement’ has been abandoned due to ‘the high cost of paper’. Turning to Sayers’ other letter he thanks him for offering to lend him a copy of Baring Gould’s ‘Strange Survivals’ but that he will obtain his own copy.
