Pieter (Pierre) Mortier (1661-1711) ed il fratello David, editori di origine francese trasferitesi ad Amsterdam, raccolsero materiale cartografico di tutte le principali botteghe del diciassettesimo secolo, ripubblicando a proprie spese, a scopo commerciale, molte delle opere della famiglia Sanson, Blaeu e di altri editori che li avevano preceduti. Alla morte di Pierre, la tipografia fu proseguita dal figlio Cornelis (1699-1783), che sposando la sorella di un altro importante editore, Johannes Covens (1697-1774), fondò la tipografia Covens e Mortier, che divenne presto la più importante firma dell’editoria cartografica in Olanda e quindi in Europa. Sotto la loro firma uscirono, postume, le pubblicazioni dei più importanti cartografi del secolo precedente, quali Sanson, Jaillot, De l’Isle, Visscher, De Wit ed altri. Il seguente corpus di mappe è tratto da uno dei loro tanti e diversi atlanti “compositi”, ovvero contenenti carte di differenti cartografi. Per la prima volta incluse nella ristampa del Theatrum di Johannes Blaeu, edita nel 1704 da Pierre Mortier, sono tratte dal Atlas Nouveau pubblicato circa nel 1708 e successivamente ristampato. Incisioni in rame, coloritura coeva dei contorni, margini, leggere pieghe di carta, nel complesso in ottimo stato di conservazione. Carta geografica della Liguria con parte del Piemonte e della Lombardia. Per la prima volta pubblicata a Parigi dal Jaillot, qui nella successiva ristampa del Mortier. When Pierre died, the family business was carried on by his son Cornelis (1699-1783), who marring the sistes of another famous publisher, Johannes Covens (1697-1774), founded the typography Covens and Mortier, due to become the most important printing business in Holland and therefore in Europe. Under their name, many work of the most important cartographers of the previous century have been reissued (Sanson, Jaillot, De l’Isle, Visscher, De Wit and others). The present corpus of maps is taken from one of their "compound" atlases, meaning with maps realized by different artists. Il tutto finemente inciso su acciaio. Legatura coeva in mezza pelle, dorso a nervi con titoli e ricchi fregi in oro. Tagli dorati. Qualche fioritura alla carte di testo, peraltro bell'esemplare. Con una vignetta al frontespizio e 14 vedute incise in rame su tavole fuori testo raffiguranti le vedute delle città incontrate durante il viaggio (ciascuna protetta da velina). Legatura coeva in mezza pelle verde, dorso liscio con titoli e fregi in oro in stile romantico. Qualche minimo segno d'uso, peraltro bell'esemplare. Con vedute di Lione, Sarzana, Genova, Firenze, Bologna, Ferrara e Milano. Edizione originale, cfr. Vicaire IV, 534-5.

in-8 gr., pp. 412, (2), attraente leg. romantica edit. in percallina nera con bordura a secco ed altra in oro sui piatti, tit. oro su quello super., tit. e ricchi fregi al dorso, tagli dor. Con ritratto dell'autore, titolo figurato inc., una vignetta in fine e 14 tavole f.t. finemente inc. su acciaio (vedute di Lione, Torino, Firenze, Milano, Magonza, Bacharach, Colonia, Nimes, ecc.). Seconda edizione rivista e accresciuta della relazione descrittiva del viaggio compiuto nel 1838 da Lione fino a Pisa attraverso il Moncenisio e poi, attraverso il Sempione, fino in Svizzera e Germania. La presente edizione, rispetto alla prima del 1839, prevede l'aggiunta de "Le voyage d'un homme heureux" dedicato dall'autore a Madame de Courbonne. Ottimo esempl.
