Il complesso della casa di Marco Fabio Rufo rappresenta uno degli esempi più insigni nel panorama architettonico di Pompei, disposto su quattro livelli abitativi digradanti verso il lato occidentale e con più di 80 ambienti, si propone come il modello urbano della villa. Il giardino, di complessivi mq 1.581, è situato ad ovest della casa, a ridosso delle mura urbane. Nel volume sono stati raccolti tutti gli studi e le ricerche condotti nella casa di Marco Fabio Rufo dal momento della sua scoperta, nel 1960, sino ai più recenti scavi del 2013 condotti nell'area del giardino. Architetture, mosaici e pitture parietali sono tra gli esempi più belli di tutta Pompei e tra i più pregiati del mondo romano. Gli elementi emersi dallo scavo e presenti nel catalogo offrono la possibilità di riscoprire tutti i materiali utilizzati all'interno di una casa e i vari cambiamenti da essa subiti sino all'eruzione del 79 d. C. Il valore aggiunto di quest'opera è il carattere di forte multidisciplinarietà caratteristico del metodo di ricerca applicato alla casa di Marco Fabio Rufo. Lo scopo è quello di aprire per la prima volta le porte di una delle abitazioni più imponenti di Pompei a tutti coloro che ne vorranno godere.

Proponiamo così una nuova e attenta analisi urbanistica, con la compilazione di una scheda per ciascun edificio del Foro, una selezione di brani della Pompeianarum Antiquitatum Historia, la ricollocazione dei reperti all'interno dei contesti di provenienza e infine uno spaccato di storia contemporanea con i personaggi famosi che nel tempo hanno visitato la città.

No date. Ca. early 1900s. GROUP OF FOUR COLOR LITHOGRAPHS 4 x 14 inches to 5 x 17 1/2 inches on sheets 8 1/2 x 20 inches. Very good condition. Toning to paper of one print Farmacisti. A really stunning and unusual grouping of four images of wall paintings from the House of the Vettii Domus Vettiorum at Pompeii. This was likely the home of wealthy merchants and this series of paintings depicts the most charming little cherubs as pharmacists salt and wine merchants metal workers and vintners . The colors are brilliant - no doubt as the printmaker envisioned the original frescoes would have been before the devastating lava flow that buried Pompeii. The lithographs are not all from the same publisher but would look excellent displayed as a set. The Saltatori and Vendemmiatori prints were both lithographed by Kunstanstalt Mulles & C. in Leipzig and "Rapp. per l'Italia A. Le Mela & C. - Napoli Via S. Liborio 40." At top right the text reads "Dernieres Excavations" which suggests a date of publication of the early 1900s as this house was excavated between 1894 and 1896. The other two lithographs have similar text above the image: Pompei Casa Dei Vettii However the Metallurgici publications line reads Editori De Luca Gentile & Co. - Napoli / Proprieta Riservata. The Farmacisti lithograph reads: Edit. G. Brogi Succ. Negenborn & Bokwinkel - Napoli. / G. Discanno dip. De Luca & Bardelloni - Napoli. Two of the prints have paper labels on the back identifying the Ettore Ragozino Galleria Umberto I Napoli. A scarce and charming series. . unknown
