In 1941 volgde hij aan de Academie in Antwerpen een avondcursus tekenen en hij werkte later in het tekenatelier van Jos Hendrickx Behaalde graduaat kunstgeschiedenis aan het Kunsthistorisch Instituut in Antwerpen, en ook aan het Instituut voor Kunstgeschiedenis en Oudheidkunde in Brussel volgde hij cursussen. Vanaf 1955 volgt een korte periode geometrisch abstract, Paul Van Hoeydonck wordt lid of medestichter van de groepen "ArtAbstrait", "Formes" en "Art Construit". In 1957 creeert hij zijn eerste monochrome wit abstracte "Lichtwerken".

Dertig jaar geleden richtten Ronny en Jessy Van de Velde in Antwerpen hun galerie op die zich oorspronkelijk toelegde op hedendaagse kunst. Vanaf midden jaren 1990 ging de kunstmarkt ten gevolge van de Golfoorlog echter door een diep dal en gooide Galerie Van de Velde het roer resoluut om door in te zetten op de grote namen van de historische avant-garde. Na een eerste retrospectieve van Marcel Duchamp groeide de galerie in enkele maanden tijd uit tot een selfmade museum met alles erop en eraan. Nadien volgden retrospectieven van Francis Picabia, Man Ray, Georges Vantongerloo, Marcel Broodthaers, James Ensor en talloze andere tentoonstellingen. Ronny Van de Velde noemt het een groot voordeel om in een crisistijd van start te gaan: ". de historische avant-garde was nog onontgonnen terrein, hele nalatenschappen wachtten op hun ontdekker." ////// Thirty years ago, Ronny and Jessy Van de Velde founded their gallery in Antwerp, which originally focused on contemporary art. From the mid-1990s, however, the art market went through a deep depression as a result of the Gulf War and Galerie Van de Velde resolutely changed course by focusing on the big names of the historical avant-garde. After a first retrospective of Marcel Duchamp, the gallery grew in a few months into a self-made museum with all the trimmings. Afterwards, retrospectives of Francis Picabia, Man Ray, Georges Vantongerloo, Marcel Broodthaers, James Ensor and countless other exhibitions followed. Ronny Van de Velde calls it a great advantage to start in a time of crisis: "the historical avant-garde was still unexplored territory, entire legacies were waiting for their discoverer." The secret of Ronny: that is his wife Jessy. She is the reality principle, she curbs his tendency to megalomania, until his feet almost touch the ground, but not quite. The spirit of gallery and family is characterized by a close connection with Antwerp. Sometimes to the point of sentiment. Also pragmatic: that city has a size that you can sufficiently master with the necessary dedication and perseverance. In that city, the gallery could become uncontournable. The book is published on the occasion of the first in a series of 5 exhibitions in the MUHKA that evoke the history of the gallery. The first is dedicated to Jef Geys and his "Eat Art" and will take place from January 28 to February 20, 2022. This is followed by the Happenings from March 25 to April 24, 2022. Het geheim van Ronny: dat is zijn vrouw Jessy. Zij is het realiteitsprincipe, zij remt zijn neiging tot megalomanie af, tot zijn voeten bijna de grond raken, maar niet helemaal. De geest van galerie en familie wordt gekenmerkt door een innige verbondenheid met Antwerpen. Soms op het sentimentele af. Ook pragmatisch: die stad heeft een formaat dat je met de nodige toewijding en volharding voldoende kan beheersen. In die stad kon de galerie incontournable worden. Het boek verschijnt naar aanleiding van een eerste in een reeks van 5 tentoonstellingen in het MUHKA die de geschiedenis van de galerie evoceren. De eerste is gewijd aan Jef Geys en zijn "Eat Art" en gaat door van 28 januari tot 20 februari 2022. Daarna volgen deHappenings van 25 maart tot 24 april 2022.

Starting point for Dheedene?s work which consists of a series of drawings on beer mats, was the logo of the Société Gerenerale Bank, an icon of Dheedene?s childhood, which stood for certitude and stability. Through these drawings, the artist analysed, mingled and reassembled the form of this logo to compose new forms. He chose this specific support because of the ideal format and the specific texture of the raw material. The round corners of the mats easily invite to rotate them. The drawings resulted in a series of collages, exposed in an exhibition and an artist book. Both were entitled Walks, a reference to the many walks the artist undertakes himself, but equally to the walking of the pencil on the limited surface of the pre-determined support.

For the the exhibition in the S.M.A.K., Partenheimer's conceptual point of departure has been La Robe des Choses, a text from A la Rêveuse Matière by the French author Francis Ponge. Reality is veiled, elusive. There is only one-way to fathom its depths: through thinking. Reflection results in concepts that enable us to penetrate and reconstruct reality. On the other hand, there will always remain elements from reality that elude pure reason and that can only be made visible by art. Partenheimer's work must consequently be interpreted as resulting from a coherent stream of thoughts, with which the artist does not so much want to reveal or evoke a certain reality, as to show us and discuss the reflections that accompany our 'being in this reality'. Quite often dogmas are undermined by new dogmas. That, precisely, is what Partenheimer seeks to avoid. An image, in Partenheimer's view, is only interesting if it can constantly bring about new streams of ideas. The public is thus invited to create the image himself or herself according the artist's theory: 'All sculpture is essentially conceptual. It does not have a final, definite form or a fixed, spatial dimension. As a model, as a monument of the imagination, a sculpture assumes those dimensions, which it needs for the respective environment in which it is shown. Any work may be altered and its dimensions deliberately adapted to the place chosen for its showing, be it a geometrically architectural room or an open, natural space'.

Jan Michiels is een Belgische muziekpedagoog en pianist. Hij treedt regelmatig op als solist maar vormt ook een pianoduo met Inge Spinette. Zijn naam is verbonden met de dansproducties van onder andere de Vlaamse Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. In 2011 behaalde hij met zijn proefschrift nog de graad van doctor in de kunsten met grootste onderscheiding.
