‎Wigand, der als einer der bedeutendsten österreichischen Miniaturmaler des beginnenden 19. Jahrhunderts gilt, absolvierte seine Ausbildung an der Wiener Akademie. Im Mittelpunkt seines Schaffens standen historische Ereignisse, wie Aufmärsche oder Festivitäten, die er vor topographisch präzise wiedergegebenen Motiven aus seiner Heimatstadt und deren Umgebung plazierte.‎
